THE BROKENWOOD MYSTERIES A new two hour crime drama series on Drama from Friday 24 February from 8.00. It is from NZ and RT reckons it is closer to Midsomer than The Killing! Brokenwood is a sleepy town which becomes a hotbed for murder. The DSS is unconventional with a torrid love life whilst his female DC disapproves of his methods. I watched this last night and thought it was OK. Not terrific but watchable, good for a leisurely evening with a glass of wine. Me too.I really enjoyed it.I rather like the main character,Mike.

Last episodes of Tenko next week, I don't usually sit watching all afternoon but I have for this series. I remembered how much it held me the first time it was shown and it has again now. It was an excellent series. There is a reunion set five years later which I think was a one off, probably a Christmas special and I hope it is shown, just to round things off.

Murdoch Mysteries picked up for an 11th season.
Presumably we'll get to see it on Drama sometime before the next ice age!

I didn't watch this time round but have seen repeats over the years and agree it's a first class series. Particularly convincing given the prison camp scenes were filmed in Dorset! I'm not sure such a series would be made today, with an almost exclusively female cast consisting largely of people who were not household names at the time.

The Brokenwood Mysteries.
I read that the second series will follow on from the first which end this Friday. You may need to refresh series link if recording.

I think two series were shown of this on one of the 5 channels and I caught them then. I quite enjoyed it, not a lot but quite!

It passes an hour when there's nothing else on. Not quite as good as the Mrs Bradley Mysteries with Diana Rigg and Neil Dudgeon.

The Red Tent Just started to watch this 4-part biblical epic mini-series, about the lesser known (or even unknown) women around the familiar Old Testament men: drama.uktv.co.uk/shows/red-tent/If it had been made in the 1950s (which it couldn't, being based on a novel published in 1997!) Charlton Heston would have been in it; this one has Iain Glen as Jacob & Debra Winger as Rebecca - plus Minnie Driver, Rebecca Ferguson (Elizabeth Woodville in The White Queen) and other faces familiar to us UK viewers. The first episode, which I haven't got beyond yet, is full of sex & childbirth rather than men fighting. It's easy watching but you have to keep up with all the names. If you didn't see or record it it's still available on UKTV player - but only for 2 more days! (keep adding 7 days for each successive episode). UKTV player is free but like all players nowadays it makes you register: uktvplay.uktv.co.uk/shows/red-tent/watch-online/?video=5413515524001

I really enjoyed The Red Tent. However, joined in to say, did you all notice that The Musketeers - Series 1 is showing on Drama at 5.45 p.m. on Sundays. What with that and Poldark - Sundays are back on the TV viewing map!

Did anyone else watch "!When The Boat Comes In" ? I spent the afternoon yesterday very enjoyably doing so. I saw the series when it was first shown and both my husband and I thought it an excellent portrayal so I was rather apprehensive that it would not be as good as I remembered . As it turned out I think it has stood the test of time very well and I shall try to see the rest of the programmes.
