Great match with a great result. How nice to see two youngsters in the final instead of usual lot!

'The usual lot' were youngsters once!
I suspect these 2 have many more finals meetings ahead of them, they both played brilliantly.

Congratulations Medvedev...he said his win was a birthday present for his wife as he had forgotten to buy her anything.

No, he isn't. I'm not fond of him but he does have a point that he has been given mixed signals by different authorities. Clearly, in my view, he should not be admitted to Australia which has had a terrible time with Covid, but then he should not have been given the medical exemption in the first place.
One thing this fiasco will do is highlight the awful conditions immigrants who are not famous are being kept in and who do not have the opportunity to leave. I hope he does make an enormous fuss.

I shall be drinking with Australian neighbours tonight so may drop this into the conversation to see their reaction! It does sound as if they cocked up the advice to travellers about exemption if you have had covid (assuming he has had it and so thought he qualified) but if I were an Australian who was refused entry to my home country during their Fortress Australia phase, irrespective of my health status, I would be spitting tacks.

Yes it would be interesting to hear their opinion. He's not helping himself, and his father certainly isn't, by stating that he is being held captive. He isn't, he is free to leave at any time but that means leaving the country and he wants to play. Of course he does, it isn't about money at his level, it's about that elusive 21st title and the records he is chasing.

Not a lot of sympathy from the Australian contingent! Well ,actually, more like zero. In fact when I tried to be Devil’s advocate and said well, he thought he had the right certification as instructed by the authorities…. I could see I was getting nowhere! It doesn’t help that they are very anti the anti-vaxxers.
If he does get in, I can’t see him being very settled for playing! Also, I think he will be given pretty short shrift by the crowd, unless they pack the court with Serbians.

So it now seems he had a positive test on 16 December which in the UK would mean he would have to self-isolate for 10 days even if he was asymptomatic, unless he was fully vaccinated which he is not, and not to have a vaccination within four weeks of his positive test. We don't know if he was unwell. So, given that he has made no secret of his opposition to vaccination, I'd say the responsibility rests with Tennis Australia who granted the medical exemption. They can't not have known that vaccination is a requirement to enter Australia.
The Australian border authorities are taking a hard stance and Tennis Australia will not come out of this well whatever the outcome is. I agree he will probably be given a hard time by the crowd if he does play, though I'm not sure that would bother him - he seems to thrive on hostile crowds!

There’s now video footage of him at an awards ceremony on the day he tested positive (if he really did). If he can provide a blood sample showing antibodies in his system he might get sympathy but I hope they send him home, especially as citizens were refused admission for family funerals.

Apparently a recent positive test is only an exemption for Australian citizens wanting to return home.
He is not vaccinated, his legal papers state this.

Essentially on a point of procedure the court has ruled that the quashing of the visa be reversed, he be allowed to leave the hotel and have his personal possessions returned to him.
Immigration Minister still has the power to rescind the visa, but will he (it would mean refusing entry for a further three years and likely more court time).
Czech foreign ministry are now asking questions over the treatment of their player.
