Well remembered, geometryman. I had thought Offred was supposed to do something with the package, not just hide it until told otherwise. That would freak me out as there aren't a lot of hiding places are there???

I only half remembered, had to look up the recording for details.
Rita is probably more likely to hide it safely than June could - her kitchen is full of places, and nobody else knows where anything is in there - remember Serena Joy hunting for (I presume) the booze last week, pretending she was looking for chamomile, when Rita cottoned on and suggested "something with a bit more flavour".

Since I was reading the book I did not watch this when it was broadcast, planning to buy the dvd. But no sign of it being released as yet. Anyone know when it might become available?
Usually series are "in the shops" the weekend after the last part is aired.

It's on Amazon video (just looked it up) which would mean you have to subscribe to the Amazon streaming service I think. Doesn't seem to be on DVD

You don't have to subscribe to stream The Handmaid's Tale from Amazon - you just need to have an Amazon account which you can sign into, or if you haven't already got one you can create one instantly. However, they will want £19.99 from you for the 10-episode season (that's HD - it's "only" £15.99 for SD) so it's quite pricy. Depends how badly you want to see it! - the DVD will come out eventually but so far the date hasn't been announced either side of the Atlantic.
Their subscription service (which is called Amazon Prime video as opposed to just Amazon video - confusing!) does give you access to a lot of films and TV series at no extra cost but, in common with a lot of very recent titles, The Handmaid's Tale isn't one of them yet.

I pay £5.99 a month for Amazon Prime and have watched some great films and TV series. Braindead was one of my favourites - hilarious!

I really enjoyed BrainDead too. They had planned a sequel set in Wall Street, but sadly the show was cancelled after the one series.

I'm glad you enjoyed Braindead, geometryman. I don't know anyone else who watched it!

I've just been reunited with my books which have been in storage for a long time and am now going to reread The Handmaid's Tale to see how the TV series compares with it. I do remember the final chapter being a kind of coda to the story – I suppose the TV series will cover that eventually.

The Handmaid's Tale has picked up four wins at the Emmys: best drama series, lead actress in a drama series - Elisabeth Moss, supporting actress in a drama series - Ann Dowd (Aunt Lydia), writing for a drama series.

I'm sorry ... but I have been in stitches of laughter. Excellent drama so far, but I had to laugh at this. It is the scene where Offred is first "taken" by the man she 'serves'. I happened to have the subtitles on (the washing was on its spin cycle and Max was boiling a kettle) and the subtitle said "uplifting organ music" Too apt, I thought! I have decided watch (at least) the beginnings of this series now that I have a better idea of where this goes. It started again on More 4 this evening (after Outlander) Already, can see why some scenes are poignant where they weren't for me in the first episode. But I remembered the 'Uplifting Organ music' scene, and it made me laugh again!
