Excellent news. I though the book was terrific.

The book is very good. A really chilling dystopian vision of a non-too-distant future that Margaret Atwood argues is entirely possible. I like Elisabeth Moss so will certainly tune in.
There is a film (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099731/) with Natasha Richardson in the main role which as I recall is also good, though shorter of course so will have condensed or omitted parts of the book.

Interesting review - the contributors very positive, with only a couple of minor niggles.

Btw - The Handmaid's Tale has already been renewed for a second series and this was announced very early in its US run. Does it mean the first series won't reach the end of the book, or that the second series will be a newly written sequel? I see Margaret Atwood herself is involved in this production.

I'm sorry ... but I have been in stitches of laughter. Excellent drama so far, but I had to laugh at this. It is the scene where Offred is first "taken" by the man she 'serves'. I happened to have the subtitles on (the washing was on its spin cycle and Max was boiling a kettle) and the subtitle said "uplifting organ music" Too apt, I thought!

Watched it with a certain interest but I hope that the whole of the series is not going to be filmed in almost total darkness as it appears so far.

Try it with the subtitles, gargle - you won't miss anything then!
