Might watch that one! Max Minghella has been nominated for an Emmy as Best Supporting Actor! By the way his grandad Eddie has just celebrated his 100th birthday. The family live on the Island as the ice cream factory is here.

Maybe I read it wrong, but I didn't think he wanted to be doing any bombing, just was powerless to argue against it in council. He and Nick are treading a dangerous path at the moment and have to be very careful to preserve their public face.
Talking of dangers, June seems to have survived yet another one. She really does seem to have nine lives!

More than nine, I'd say! It is beyond a joke now that she keeps getting away with it. I know some people like Nick but I find him wooden and can't take him seriously. He is years younger than any other commander and there is zero chemistry between him and June. I don't buy their love affair, if that's what it is – it's easy to imagine that June would be being pragmatic about him but why would he do the same unless he really does care for her?

I think he does care for her. That plus, how easy would it be for him to have extra marital sex in Gilead, before he became a Commander and had access to the brothels?

Well that took a turn didn’t it? I was surprised by the ending! Actually I was surprised by what I thought was the ending before it changed to the women hunting him down. It was good to see Commander Lawrence and Nick playing a part in Fred’s denouement. I wonder where this leaves Serena Joy.

I was quite shocked by the ending. I think June is going too far now. She's consumed with hatred and revenge which is not the attitude that, for example, enabled her to organise getting all those children out of Gilead. What was Serena Joy up to at the end? She was using Zoom - just to try and contact Fred, assuming he was in Geneva, even though he obviously hadn't made the promised phone call to her to say he'd landed? ... or someone else?

I too think June is a bit hard to take these days. I have found her to be quite bullying towards the other women if they don’t agree with her. But I assume this could just be down to PTSD. I can’t quite work out Serena Joy. I was very surprised she seemed to be prepared to go back to Fred, presumably because he seemed to be getting the upper hand at one point in the legal situation. I couldn’t watch all of the scenes where they killed Fred but I did read that the choreography of the scene was supposed to mirror those instances where the Handmaids had to stone their sisters to death, and that in the book that punishment was dreamt up by Fred. But why didn’t they let him go to face trial in Gilead if he was deemed to be a traitor? Or was that never an option, and this exact end was planned between June, Nick and Lawrence?

Well, that was a barrel of laughs as usual!
I think they are portraying June's state of mind very well, and also Serena's delusional behaviour and twisted logic. But goodness, it's hard going.
Sorry we won't see Emily again - presumably Alexis Bledel has moved on to other things. I hope we will see Janine and Aunt Lydia in due course.

For anyone still watching, I've just learned that the penultimate episode is tomorrow and the final episode of this series is on Monday at 9 pm. Watch those PVRs! Mine usually does adjust to schedule changes but I'll be very cross if I miss the final episode which apparently is a corker.

Ooh, crickey, thanks Helen. I hadn’t noticed the Monday listing.
I’m enjoying this series too.

Powerful ending, as usual. I've never thought about Canada's relationship with its much more powerful neighbour, I wonder if tensions are simmering beneath the surface that would be brought out by a situation like this. I have a friend with a sister living in Canada, I will ask her.
They can't resist going OTT, can they? They actually had a protestor run over June's arm with a car, and even that didn't stop her, just a day or two in hospital and then she was able to carry her infant daughter.
So June and Serena live to fight more battles and endure each other's company for a while longer at least. No surprise there but I am nevertheless looking forward to the next (and final, I think) series.

I rather think this has gone on too long. I still watch it but think they could have injected a bit more pace and perhaps done without one series. I still enjoy it though and it is interesting to see how they paint June. I don’t think I would be able to get on with her myself! I’ve also been a bit disappointed in Serena who despite being roundly dumped on by Gilead and that awful family, still hasn’t abandoned Gilead beliefs. Perhaps she could go and live in New Bethlehem. Two things have particularly struck me.
1. I am amazed by this Canadian situation. I thought Canada was a stickler for human rights so would welcome these women with open arms, as rape victims if nothing else! All these protests seem wildly out of place. I mean, it’s Canada…
2. I am very disappointed in Commander Lawrence. Unless he is playing a very long, very deep game, he has gone completely to the dark side. No, Commander Lawrence, you were supposed to help out not build a stupid estate for a selected few.

I quite enjoyed this series, more so than the previous one I think. It had some quite intense episodes. At the end, as soon as June realised there was another baby on the train, you just knew whose...
Are June and Serena going to team up now? I'm looking forward to the final series.
