It has been announced that streaming company Hulu and MGM will be developing The Testaments for the screen. In an interview with Atwood for the new book, Time reported that Bruce Miller, showrunner for Hulu’s award-winning adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale, is currently in talks over how to handle the new material in the sequel. Hulu or MGM are yet to confirm whether the events in The Testaments would be worked into the existing show, starring Elisabeth Moss as the Handmaid Offred.

Well, I was wrong, she said nothing about the TV show though the event started with an excerpt from a documentary about the author to be shown on Canadian TV later in the year. I imagine we'll see it in the UK sometime next year. There was a scene of her in discussion with Elisabeth Moss in costume on a TV set, but we couldn't hear what they were discussing.
The talk was excellent and included extracts from The Testaments (the same as on the Guardian website) – much more powerful when read by actors, including Ann Dowd. If it comes online or to TV, I recommend watching.

The Testaments is being serialised on R4 in 12 parts from Monday 16 September at 12.04 over 12 (I think) episodes. It is repeated at 22.45.

I am tempted to set up an Audible trial account. I can get the audiobook version (read by Ann Dowd, Bryce Dallas Howard and Mae Whitman with Derek Jacobi, Tantoo Cardinal and Margaret Atwood) free. And I can cancel at any time.

S4 starts in the US on 28 April. Channel 4 showed Series 3 only a couple of weeks behind the US, so if it does the same this time we could get it around the middle of May.

It will be interesting to see where they go with Offred/June's story in light of the publication of Margaret Atwood's sequel The Testaments, which is set 15 years after the events of The Handmaid's Tale. It will be quite tricky to reconcile the events of The Testaments with what has so far happened with the TV series. This has been posted before, but I think it's worth reposting here: www.denofgeek.com/books/how-will-margaret-atwood-handmaids-tale-book-sequel-affect-tv-show/The article was written before The Testaments was published. Hulu are developing The Testaments as a TV show as well: www.denofgeek.com/books/the-handmaids-tale-sequel-the-testaments/If they are staying close to the timescale of The Testaments, it's difficult to see where The Handmaid's Tale, which was originally intended to be 10 series, can go in plot terms.

Series 3 is being repeated on Ch4 in the early hours of Tuesday mornings (episode 6 is next), so maybe they'll start the next series once the repeats are finished?

Series 3 is being repeated on Ch4 in the early hours of Tuesday mornings (episode 6 is next), so maybe they'll start the next series once the repeats are finished? Yes, that makes sense. They seem to be showing more than 1 episode of S3 per week now (eps 6, 7 & 8 on Tues, Fri, Mon). At this rate we could get S4 on Sunday 23 May - or more likely, since it's a Bank Holiday weekend, Sunday 30 May.

I might have to record some of the later episodes to refresh my memory on what happened.

I still have series 3 on my hard drive, intending to rewatch, and haven't done it. It is not as gripping as it once was because as long as Elisabeth Moss is executive producer and directing some episodes, we know that June will survive, so she can be as outrageous as she likes. One of the reviews of the last series described her as Teflon, which is pretty accurate! I'll still watch though as it's very beautifully filmed and I am curious to see what scrapes she will get into this time.
