Why did the BBC feel it necessary to fly Sophie Raworth out to Russia to lead the 6pm news bulletin? Surely they have a Moscow correspondent who could have done the job?

I'm sorry but why is the main story at 18:00 England will play an important football match in 60 minutes. I get its important to all England fans but it isn't NEWS until the match is played. I want to know what other bad news the government have buried because the media are distracted by the football, after all it was PMQ's today - no word on who filled in for Mrs May while she's away at NATO, no we got 17 mins of England will play football. they are currently winning 1 - 0 but I'd rather see news than some fans singing into a mike. There was something about further changes to universal credit today but I've yet to find it.
the match is a bit physical and the ref seems to be telling players to stop moaning, he'll referee the match not them.

It was the 'usual suspects' ie David Lidington v Emily Thornberry... I have to say I was pleasantly surprised that 5Live stuck to its normal Wednesday plan and paused the World Cup coverage for PMQ Can't help with what was said, though, as I was on my way out when it started... I think the Radio News is often more sensible than TV...

I can never understand why that do that for these big stories. If I were the local correspondent I would be well ticked off! They do it on R4 as well and then use the host they have sent wherever to do interviews with a guest in the London studio. Bonkers.

Could see that was coming. Been here too many times before. And it's why I've refused to get excited even when we were one-up.

Too many fouls are being ignored by the ref. It makes me quite angry.

Whatever happens England have got far, far further than anyone expected. They have played well and show great promise for the future.

Well said, Bidie, even though with Croatia scoring that extra goal in ET it now looks like they'll be going home. Oh well, at least it wasn't settled on penalties, that's something!

Now the media needs to acknowledge that they did their best and not start the harassment that they usually do when England players lose

Now the media needs to acknowledge that they did their best and not start the harassment that they usually do when England players lose First look at tomorrow's front pages (on BBC site) seem very positive - I should hope so too
