It felt disjointed to me, as though the two stories were written by different people, with different ideas about the characters and overall arc. I liked the second story more than the first, so maybe it improved as the characters settled in, but I’m not holding my breath for any continuation.

So far, I can’t see a single reason for setting in SF. Is it to try and engage American audiences? I wonder how that’s going.
Surely it’s more plausible that they would find it easier to be resident in Canada? I don’t know what the visa arrangements were like in the mid 50s. Could they really live there without having any paid employment?
The only thing that is carrying through strongly from the British version is the suffocating social position of women. Reminds me of Mad Men.

I believe it was much easier to live in the states then, unlike now.

I can hardly contain my excitement - not. I suppose I'll at least start to watch it.

My memory says that I was underwhelmed by the early episodes, but I might give it another chance, depending on who's on HIGNFY that night

My God this was terrible.
I don't know what was worse, the acting, the dialogue, the story or the budget. The original series was alright IIRC, this was more like the famous five (but with added virtue signalling).

It’s a shame, the original series was so good. I will watch the next 2 episodes (presumably another story) just to see how it all pans out, but don’t know if I would watch another series, if there is another one.

The original was excellent. Does anyone know what where it airs in Canada or US? Is it a daytime slot? It just seems so dumbed down from the original. I wonder what the target audience is?

Bit of research shows the whole series (eps 1 through 8) aired in Canada last autumn on CITY-TV. It's currently being repeated at 1.00 am Sat night/Sun morning! The US distributor is Britbox, which is a SVOD (streaming) service like Netflix, so not aired at a particular time of day. Since it has a nostalgic fifties setting I'd assume the target audience is old fogies.
It's all rather Enid Blyton, isn't it, apart from the beatings and deaths. The original series was better, more Dick Barton. I'll have to see it out now but I'll be surprised if there's a second series.

It had such good potential but the move to SF has been dire.

There's only two of the original four in it, isn't there?

Yup, Sophie Rundle and Anna Maxwell Martin moved on - wisely, I think (assuming it was their choice, or fortunately if it wasn't).
