I am currently watching the synchronised swimming on the red button. I can't swim and don't like being in water but it is lovely to watch this blue pool on a hot day! The diving is on all next week with qualifying most mornings and finals in the afternoon from 1.15 mostly. It goes on to next Sunday, men's 10m final being the last event. I shall be calling banana man and surf's up with Leon!
The cycling had good coverage last night and GB won some medals, yay!

Oh! So it's like the Olympics for Europe? I was wondering what sport is was when I saw it on the EPG.

Well I think it is a new format, whether it's an experiment or not I don't know! But it's over two centres with the athletics in Berlin and the selected other stuff in Glasgow. I know there is also rowing, gymnastics (just been on BBC1) and golf. So I guess it's a mini Olympics.
Spain were just robbed of a bronze in the synchronised swimming, I thought they were terrific, as were Ukraine who got silver. Russia got gold and Italy lucky to get bronze IMHO as a world renowned expert in this sport! GB came 9th.
I wonder if there will be any equestrian sports. I like watching dressage and giving my expert opinion on that as well, lol.
Edit. Just looked up the websites. No, there is no equestrian. Berlin is pure athletics. Glasgow has aquatics, rowing, gymnastics, cycling, triathlon and golf.

I am optimistic that as the other sports, which I much prefer, are in Glasgow they will get equal if not better coverage than the athletics. And I really like to see Chris Hoy as the studio guest.

I've give it up and I'm watching the cricket I recorded yesterday.
I don't mind Chris Hoy but there is just far too much studio chat on the BBC. Has been for years but they seem to keep doing it. And with my aerial problems I can't get the RB where you do get less chat.

I think they were just getting going earlier. There has been good coverage since then, but of course they might switch back, who knows!
The medal ceremony for a team event took forever last night. As with the world championship rainbow jerseys, you get a special champions' jersey (which you can wear whenever you race that event until the next championships I believe, rather than your national kit) as well as a gold medal and mascot, and they don't just hand it to you but you have it put on you by the medal presenter!

Hilarious comment on the tempo race when the guy who isn't Chris Boardman said well it shouldn't be so complicated that the people running it don't know what's going on! Apparently it can take a few hours to get the scores finalised. And the commentators thought the Irish rider was credited with a lap but didn't actually gain one.

Fantastic vault competition in the women's gymnastics.
Hungary haven't won a medal in any gymnastics since the 90s. But they got a gold! The poor gymnast went first and she got more and more nervous as the competition went on. I thought she was going to have a heart attack by the time the last vault was taken. And when the Russian come second she was in tears, her coach was in tears, I was in tears.... amazing stuff.

Loved the Belgian girl's floor routine! She basically did the plot of a Harry Potter film with added tumbling. Very theatrical and dramatic. And nice to see something a bit different.

There seems to be quite a lot of theatrics in the floor routines. Another girl has just done Cats.
I'm wondering if it's in reply to the American style for the next Olympics? The Americans seem to regard the dancing bits as an afterthought to the tumbling. But, for me at least, it then becomes like the men's and we lose all the distinguishing factors of the womens' routines. I would hate it for it to become just tumbling.

The two clowns are on again now. I simply cannot understand them. If they aren't being drowned out by the crowd (which seems to be more prevalent in swimming than other sports for some reason), they start burbling on like a couple of blokes down the pub. They were talking about some one having been disqualified and I didn't have a clue who they meant. Thankfully Claire explained it was our chap at the Commonwealth Games. Now why are Rebecca Bland, sorry I mean Addlington and Mark with Claire in the studio and not at the pool? They seem to give more information when at the pool looking at all their stats, but very detached in this format I think.
