ITV’s new drama series The Bay will premiere on Wednesday March 20th at 9pm.
"The Bay is set in the unique coastal town of Morecambe and follows Detective Sergeant Lisa Armstrong, who is assigned to a missing persons investigation in Morecambe. As a police Family Liaison Officer, she’s trained never to get emotionally involved. Her job is to support families during the worst time of their lives whilst also to be the eyes and ears of the police investigation; a cuckoo in the nest. But there’s something very different about this particular case.
With horror Lisa realises she’s got a personal connection with this frightened family; one that could compromise her and the investigation. As she grapples to get justice for the grieving family, Lisa discovers it could come at the cost of her own."
It stars Morven Christie, Jonas Armstrong, Tracie Bennett and Lindsey Coulson

This looks as though it will be worth watching.

Well, so far I don't like any of the main characters!

A question- is this worth me fighting my way through the STV hub to watch this on catch up? (Forgot to record it). For comparison I loved Broadchurch, adored Unforgotten, but gave up on Baptiste after 3 episodes.

I hadn't heard of it until the Guardian reviewed it this morning. The reviewer found it corny, full of cliché, but lovable. Sounds like weekday evening fodder, which is a pity after all the first class drama we've had recently. I also loved Broadchurch though, like others, I did think it lost its way in series 2 and then found it again in the final series.

I watched, and found it OK enough to keep with it. It's not very original. I like Morven Christie but so far other characters are a bit shallow. I still can't help thinking of Jonas Armstrong as Robin Hood!

I enjoyed it. Reminded me of Broadchurch though in places.

I quite enjoyed it. It is quite unusual to focus on the family liaison officer in crime dramas, or novels come to that. Mind you as someone who doesn't like Morven Christie, I have to say she seemed a rather cold FLO! And I know it would be mortifying to have to admit the whole truth, but could she not have just said oh I met him last night and we flirted between 10.30 and 10.40. I mean a knee trembler isn't going to last for the whole time gap is it? Then she wouldn't end up sabotaging evidence and.lying. The decisions these characters make!

I will never forget trying to watch an episode of Broadchurch that had failed to record for some reason, and it took me 4 hours to get through it on the STV hub because every time I needed to pause it (like Mum calling me etc) I suddenly had to sit through a batch of adverts before it let me get on with the rest of the episode.

I like Morven Christie as an actress but I don't much like her character in this. The story isn't bad and the development at the end of the episode is certainly enough to keep me watching next week.
I forgot to record the second episode of Cheat last week so had to watch it on the ITV hub. There didn't seem to be any way that I could find of skipping the adverts like there is when I record stuff. I suppose it's fair enough as that is the way it is paid for but it was a real nuisance!

I know it was a real nuisance, I only wanted to watch the final 10 minutes of the program because that’s when my recording had cut off, but it wouldn’t let me fast forward through, and anything I tried to do led to having to sit through 3 mins of ads..

The critic in the 'i' uses the term 'knee trembler' too... that isn't what it used to mean in the distant past (ie when I was young) - or did it, and I didn't know?

Some of the critics compared it to Broadchurch. I have to disagree. The "hero" of this drama is a bent copper tampering with evidence, and thoroughly unpleasant to boot. Her daughter appears to be equally nasty. If the DS had come clean to her DI straight away, I'd have a better opinion of her. On top of everything else, she snarls at her kids and her junior officer, just because she's got a hangover. I'll give it one more week to "grab" me, but when you don't like the main character in a drama, it's difficult to engage with it. Hardy and Miller in Broadchurch each had their flaws, so I don't expect perfection, and I'm quite partial to flawed heroes, but cowardly dishonest coppers do nowt for me. I see the similarities with Broadchurch, the cheating dad, pregnant mum, body on the beach, but for me this is a very inferior production.
