Funny you should say that, but I expected Dodds to discover just that when he was ploughing through those books in the library.

Make that a minority of two helen. I couldn't find either the story or any of the characters plausible; no-one seemed quite sure whether it was meant to be funny (it wasn't for me). Even an actor with Jason Watkins' talent couldn't make Dodds come alive and I thought the actress playing McDonald and the actor playing the Superintendent over-acted. The best thing about it was seeing bits of Bath. I stayed with it for the whole two hours but I won't bother next week.

I have found a new treat to try...chips dipped in butter.

Far too long, it was hard to stay interested. Mind you there were a lot of distractions in the house.

Agree it was too long. No distractions in my house but I was struggling to stay awake.

I loved it! The plot was no worse than the plots in DiP or Shakespeare and Hathaway. Love Robert Lindsay cos he's so good at villains. Jason Watkins was the quiet at the centre of the storm. The swearing seemed realistic to me as she comes from South London. And I enjoyed the twist at the end. I worked out Seth would be related in some way but I didn't work out it was Ellie's wife and not Ellie. I thought the King Lear scene in the kitchen was well done.

It was realistic - but was it necessary?

Saying 'shit' at 8pm is nothing.
Law & Order (5USA) has 'son of a bitch' and 'bastard' in the early afternoon.
I think the watershed has been chucked out of the window.

SOB and bastard are not swearing, imo.
It is probably just me but considering other detective shows screened at the same time manage without any kind of swear word, I wonder why the writer of this one felt it necessary to add them?
I mean, I enjoyed the programme but we are not talking Line of Duty here! It was all very light hearted and unlikely in plot.

I guess with all the streaming services it is now pretty pointless.

I think 'son of a bitch' is worse. You're insulting someone's mother who usually has nothing to do with whatever it was that caused you to use the insult.

Good point, Miranda (re streaming).
