ITV have handed out a series order to MacDonald and Dodds, a feature-length detective drama series starring Jason Watkins (The Crown, The Lost Honour Of Christopher Jefferies) and Tala Gouveia (Cold Feet).
Two episodes have been ordered for the show’s first season.
MacDonald and Dodds is set in Bath and follows the wildly ambitious DCI McDonald (Gouveia), who is partnered with the shy, modest DS Dodds (Watkins). While McDonald has transferred from the mean streets of South London to leap up the career ladder, Dodds has happily languished on the shelf for most of his working life.
McDonald is a tough, driven, battering ram of a cop who cracks cases through sheer force of will; Dodds – the tortoise to her hare – is quiet, unassuming and enigmatic. But thrust back into frontline action for the first time in a decade, he discovers a hidden talent for deciphering puzzles. Two contemporary Britons, seemingly with nothing in common, thrown together, boss McDonald and loyal sidekick Dodds forge a rumbustious, entertaining and ultimately – give or take a few setbacks – effective partnership.
The drama series was created by DCI Banks writer Robert Murphy.
“Robert Murphy has created a brilliant new partnership in Dodds and McDonald and I’m thrilled they will be played by Jason Watkins and Tala Gouveia”, said ITV’s Head of Drama Poly Hill, who commissioned the series. “I think this is a fresh and contemporary double act that the audience will love, and we are delighted to be working with Mammoth to bring them to ITV next year.”

Too late for me to change the title of this thread - Mods?
Premiere next month. Will post the date when I see notification.

I wonder why they changed the title? Invisible is much more evocative, and from the description probably refers to the Jason Watkins character coming out of his shell. Perhaps there's another show with the same name.

Usually in this type of mismatched cop show the promo title photo shows them standing back to back - to hammer home that they aren't on the same page, or cut from the same cloth. Ala Lethal Weapon.
Usually the more serious and by the book one looking stern with maybe a raised eyebrow, the more lighthearted one looking friendly with a soft smile.
I work in marketing so I am a bit jaded with regards to visual media presentation clichés. I will probably love the show though. I love mismatched partners stuff.

I looked it up. This series uses a bit of a variation of the standing back to back theme.

If that's what they're doing, it's harking back to an earlier, character driven form of cop show, isn't it – Starsky & Hutch, Macmillan and Wife, The Rockford Files with Rockford and his father, Cagney and Lacey, etc. I'm struggling to think of UK equivalents from that era, though later ones such as Grantchester and Foyle's War come to mind.

To an extent Holmes and Watson. One deadly serious, the other jolly and affable.
How about "Hot Fuzz?" That film even had the same plot about the overly ambitious cop from London (Simon Pegg) being sent to the quiet village community under the guise of being "promoted" by his bosses, but really to get shed of him. There he is matched-up with the low-key, friendly underachieving cop (Nick Frost) and they work together despite their differences and grow to respect each other.
And they used the back to back promo photo. LOL
