Tuesday, (20/8) Ch5, at 9p.m. Second series. Shows life and work of the Beefeaters. Enjoyed the first series, and having seen the trailer for this one, looks just as interesting as the last.

Good start. Those raven chicks were very cute, good luck with them for breeding them. Congratulations to the Yeoman Guard for losing weight. Magnificent uniforms. Looking forward to next week's episode.

As someone who has a phobia of birds, including soft fluffy ones let alone crows and ravens, cute is not the word I would use, lol!! But why could they only keep one of the four? If they are trying to breed them to maintain their raven population, why not keep all of them?
I liked the tailor and his company dating from 1655. Plus the bits from Tracey, she is always good I think. She gave a lecture at our U3A on Thomas Cromwell, excellent.

You can't keep breeding the same birds. If you do you end up with birds that are a bit.... not quite right.

marion, I too have a very bad bird phobia so the ravens are the stuff of nightmares to me. How the Raven Master can handle them and have them is his house is beyond me. During the recent very hot weather a sparrow flew through my open living room window. I screamed and ran! Only when I got outside did I realise I was bare footed but could not go back in the house for my shoes so had to put my wellies on so I could fetch a neighbour to deal with the bird. It took me about an hour to recover. My heart races and I can't breathe. Only people with a true phobia can understand how badly affected you are.
I visited the Tower in 2014 to see the poppies in the moat and since I live 200 miles from London, decided to take the tour whilst I was there since I may never get the chance again. We had an wonderful Yeoman Warder guide so I am really enjoying seeing behind the scenes. It is the most amazing place.

Tell me about it Vicky! The only time I had a bird fly in here, it was a blue tit but quite a fluffy one. I was screaming away but it landed on a radiator and slowly slid down the back where it got a bit stuck. I got the rubber gloves on and a few teatowels and managed to scoop it up* and run outside with it where I had to let it fight its own way out of the towels. I was in such a state!!!!!!!! The bird was fine.
*I could only do that because it couldn't flap its wings. I couldn't have gone near it if the wings were going!!!

Last night's episode was also very interesting. Fancy finding a piece of Elizabeth I's dress being used as an altar cloth in a church in Herefordshire! You couldn't make it up. I'm finding this series as good as the last one was. Sorry if I upset you ladies for saying how cute the baby birds were. By the way, I also like spiders and snakes!

No, it doesn't upset me that you find birds cute. I feed them in my garden and love watching them....from a distance! I have also been ridiculously pleased that house martins have nested in the eaves of my house for two years running. I wish I didn't have this awful phobia which is totally irrational but beyond my control. I like spiders too and happily handle them whereas I know people who feel the same way about them as I do abnout birds.

What a fascinating and informative series this was. Lots of interesting people in the Yeoman Warders. I certainly wouldn't be able to visit the Tower because I can't climb stairs, and hate crowds, but we saw the best bits and behind the scenes. Hope they make another one.

Really sad this has finished. Really fascinating, both the history of it and the modern. I hope they do another one as well.

Wednesday (14th) at 8pm (1/4)
Series 3. Prince Charles and Camilla visit the tower to celebrate the Yeomen Warders Anniversary. We also hear the tragic story of Catherine Howard. She, unfortunately was married to Henry VIII. I'm glad to see a new series, hope they show some of the ravens as well. Of course now, we have female Warders too.

Another good start to the series. I'm surprised they allowed so many members of the public in on the day of the Royal visit. Although there were plenty of weapons (ancient and modern) to protect the Royal couple.Even Cyril the local squirrel made an appearance. So George the raven isn't all he seems, they had to rechristen him Georgie, as a blood test confirmed he was a she. Next week, it's the start of the Coronavirus outbreak. Jason Watkins is the narrator once again.

I really enjoyed it, full of all sorts of interesting bits and pieces. I would love to do a Twilight Tour. Full marks to the warder for his reply to the lady who said she was a reincarnation of Anne Boleyn and wanted him to show her where she had been executed I remember quietly pulling a face when our guide talked about the Princes in the Tower and his saying 'I can see we have a fan of Richard with us, ladies and gentlemen' - and everyone looked at me! Last time I was there was to see the poppies, but it's on the list for when freedom returns
