I missed the first episode so have only the second to go on so far, but I enjoyed it. I remember the original series as being rather sweet, focusing more on the humour than on the harshness of agricultural life at that time. I also think they've captured the main characters very well – mercurial and charming Siegfried, academic and naive but well-meaning and keen to learn James, and lazy tosser but occasionally brilliant Tristan. I will certainly keep watching.
Love the idea of Mrs P holding a grand party for Tricki Woo. I imagine they will recast for future series, since as I recall she pops up fairly regularly.

Yes I liked Mrs Pumphrey and I also like this version of Mrs Hall. Wasn't she older in the original?

The original Mrs. Hall was older, wasn't she. In her 60s I think.

I didn't remember her so looked her up. She was played by Mary Hignett, who was born in 1916 and would therefore have been 62 in 1978 when ACGAC was first broadcast. She died in 1980 so I guess they replaced her with another housekeeper for the rest of the run. www.imdb.com/name/nm0383662/?ref_=tt_cl_t5

Yes she was quite a lot older. This Mrs Hall obviously has a story we might hear more about I don't like Tristan... in the books and the old series yes he was lazy and a bit stuck in student ways but he was generally just a bit cheeky and silly - this one looks sullen and his idea of humour seems to verge on the spiteful But it's early days

Caught up with the first 2 episodes and thoroughly enjoyed it. Touching to see the wonderful Diana Rigg. I wonder who they will get for the role in future series? I used to love when Seigfreid refused to charge children who brought their much loved pets for treatment. He knew that money was scarce in many families so would frequently say "no charge for rabbits today!". I think, in the books, he admitted to James that he could always add a couple of shillings onto the account of a wealthy horse breeder, if necessary.
Liked the cat mix up! "That's not my cat either!"
One thing puzzled me - Mrs Hall's friend - who sold Seigfreid the car - said something about "serving in the WRENS under Mrs Hall".
Were their WRENS in WW1? This is set pre-WW2 from memory.

Yes, this is set so far in 1937 (date appeared on screen in the opening Glasgow sequences in ep.1), so pre-WW2.
Quick google shows, to my surprise, WRENS were formed in 1917.

Cheers Geometry man. I felt the conversation between the ladies slightly jarred - all the mentions of saluting and "Ma'am". 1917 - who knew?

I'm watching this on catch up now (Tuesday's ep just gone). Bizarrely, it is available only with narration (along with dialogue) but is rather charming so not a distraction.

I love the Drama channel, having only really discovered it during lockdown. They are showing so many original series now that I either missed first time around (like Spooks) or am enjoying from the very start all over again (New Tricks). I have spent more time watching Drama this summer than most of the more mainstream channels.

Me too, and I have enjoyed watching New Tricks and to be honest I found it a bit dull first time around.

This is 'bedding in' nicely Wasn't too keen on Callum's Tristan at first, but I'm warming to him. I liked the way he supported James ('Jim' to Tris) last night. This Tristan has a good heart. The standout character, so far, is Sam West's Siegfried. He has integrity.
