Newcomer Nicholas Ralph has been set as the lead in their new take on All Creatures Great And Small.
Samuel West (Mr. Selfridge), Anna Madeley (Patrick Melrose), Callum Woodhouse (The Durrells) and Rachel Shenton (White Gold) have also been cast in the series.
All Creatures Great And Small chronicles the heartwarming and humorous adventures of a young country vet. This new adaptation will preserve the rich spirit, tone and values of Herriot’s iconic characters and stories and will bring to life his sharply observed, entertaining and incredibly funny tales of country life in the North of England for a modern audience, introducing a new generation to his life-affirming stories.
Samuel West has been cast as Siegfried Farnon, the wonderfully eccentric veterinary surgeon and proprietor of Skeldale House who reluctantly hires the recently qualified Herriot into his rural practice; Anna Madeley as Mrs Hall, the resident housekeeper and matriarch of Skeldale House; Callum Woodhouse as Tristan, Siegfried’s errant and charismatic younger brother; and Rachel Shenton as Helen Alderson, an independent local farmer’s daughter who helps her father manage the family farm and care for her younger sister.
The show’s first series will consist of six episodes and a Christmas special.
Production gets underway this autumn on location in Yorkshire.

Oh, how lovely. I was a huge fan of the books and original series.
I take it James has not yet been cast?

I think a stage like All Creature is a great one to make a television debut. Especially in the starring role!

I liked the original series, too; but I will be leaving this until later, as I have many other things I am watching, and if I leave them til' later, I will never get round to them; it will be on my watch list, though.

I'll be looking out for it, though if they've only just cast it and started production it won't be any time soon - Spring 2020 would be about the earliest possibility, I'd say.

I keep seeing a clip of this, in the car, with the dogs head resting on his shoulder...looking all soppy, and can't stop laughing

Just tried to put this in my series link. It’s coming up as the original series (1978) not the new series.

Just tried to put this in my series link. It’s coming up as the original series (1978) not the new series. That's strange, maybe it's a fault with the EPG, it is the new one on C5. The original is BBC. BBC4 did show the first&second episode a couple of months ago and thought it was the start of a rerun, but they never showed anymore!

Have checked again and it definitely says it’s the old series. Have set it to record anyway! I’ve got Virgin Tv so maybe it’s their EPG that is wrong.
