Vets have always made a good living, even putting animals down was regular income.

I seem to remember reading that in the books prof - what were a couple of extra shillings to a wealthy horse breeder versus an elderly cash strapped person whose dog or cat was their only friend? In those days vets could charge as they saw fit and Seigfreid was always acutely aware of which clients would struggle to pay and which were rolling in money.
In the case of the dog squashed (no pun intended) by the pumpkin they seemed to have all the things they needed to hand and he and Tris gave their time and skill for free.

Oh right. That's what I thought, that he'd know the clients and charge done more than others depending on what they could afford. How could you not help a squashed dog?! Bless.

Great episode. I've so enjoyed this so a bit upset it was the last episode. At least there's a Christmas special to look forward to.

It’s nice to have some ‘feel good viewing’ isn’t it.

With gorgeous scenery and lovely animals (great and small).
Nice to see Tris come through for 'Strawberry' at the end but sad to see Helen's bull off to the abattoir its medical condition meaning it was unsuitable as a stud animal.
Mrs Hall's cure for colds seemed to encompass everything!
(But mostly whisky).

I tried to watch this last night on My5. All it did was play the adverts, start the music then restart! After three lots of ads I gave up. I then remembered it is repeated on C5 tonight so shall record that.

It's a long time since I watched the first series or read the books - I thought James and Helen would have been together by now, obviously not...but I don't remember Hugh at all

I tried to watch this last night on My5. All it did was play the adverts, start the music then restart! After three lots of ads I gave up. I then remembered it is repeated on C5 tonight so shall record that. I find My5 can be a bit tricky to use. I had the same thing happen when I tried to watch the Roman roads programme the other day: the programme started then suddenly went back to the opening adverts so I gave up. I tried again today and it restarted where it had left me hanging before and worked perfectly! Very odd. I do hope we get more series of All Creatures Great and Small. It has been such a tonic to watch and an antidote to what is happening in our lives at the moment. More please!

Brilliant series. For a remake I thought it might be a step too far, but it wasn't, it stood on it's own and has been a proper tonic. Such a shame they didn't make more episodes.

Perhaps they were 'dipping their toe in the water' for this first series. At least there's to be Christmas special.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Comparing it to the last one, I can’t believe how much my affections have swung between characters. Last time it was all Tristan and James, this time it’s Siegfried and Mrs Hall! I also can’t remember a Hugo character last time. Was he there or is he an invention, or a fresh import from the books?
A really lovely show though, well done to C5 for picking it up.
