Excellent latest episode. No spoilers since it was covered in the original series, but part of the story is Tricki coming to stay with 'Uncle Herriot' in an attempt to get his diet sorted. Little Tricki is an absolute star - sort of like a mobile floor mop - although I find his flat features sad knowing the problems they can cause this breed. But he can go quite quickly when he spots the sort of treat he is used to!
(In the original, the wonderful Robert Hardy playing the bombastic Seigfried, encountered Tricki in the hall, mixing in with his pack of various sized hairy hounds, and uttered the classic line "Good God James, are you sure its a dog?")

I loved this episode so much I am going to watch the repeat too, just to see those gorgeous dogs again. I fell in love with both Tricki and Clancy the German Shepherd.

I've only seen the first episode so far but based on that, so do I. Less mannered, but then they are of a different acting generation.

But I do prefer Rachel Shenton's Helen to Lynda Bellingham's. I liked the original, Carol Drinkwater, and never really took to Lynda in the role.

But which is most faithful to the book? I think Seigfreid has been softened a bit for this new version. It is a long time since I read the books but I seem to remember him being a force of nature, roaring round the house in disorganised chaos but being quite simply brilliant - and very tender hearted - when it came to his animal patients and most of their owners.

It’s been too long since I read the books (which sometimes is an advantage). Also an awful long time since I saw the original series, so I’m just enjoying this new series as it is.

Oddly enough, I bought the entire original series for my Dad for Christmas year before last. He waded his way through all 80 odd episodes and thoroughly enjoyed them all again. Finished them about this time last year and gave me back the box set.
I hadn't got around to seeing any and then this new production comes along (which I'm thoroughly enjoying btw). I guess I'll watch the original again eventually.

Doesn't Seigfreid - in the books and original series - get Tristram to join the local bell ringers on the grounds that "they will be a good influence on him" - only for Tris to lead said bell group straight to the pub?
I hope the producers have got the main cast members committed to further series as this is a winner and will sell over seas.
Still laughing at Tricki with his hamper of goodies - which the vets thoroughly enjoyed.

The joys of being a judge at the local show this week!
Only Seigfreid would treat a dog for a fracture and decline to charge the owner when he heard that the dog belonged to his late wife and was his only companion.
Lovely series - well done to all involved.

That bit got me as well, bidiein. No charge for the dog, it was sweet, but how do they make a living? Did he say (or was it soneine on here!) That he just adds a bit extra onto a richer horse breeder etc?
