Does anyone remember a TV series in the 70s called Whodunnit? It was where celebrity panellists were shown a murder and had to guess whodunnit. A lot of the episodes are available on YouTube, and I'm currently watching the one I remember most vividly as a kid ('Before Your Very Eyes' in the last series).

Never heard of it! Sounds my kind of thing though. Have you got a link?

Here's the link to the episode I'm watching: The person who uploaded it seems to have plenty more episodes available. I laughed at the detective checking items for fingerprints - he picked them up with his bare hands and looked at them with a magnifying glass!

I thought I did, but looking at the beginning of that link, no.... must have passed me by Was there another programme, based on the Cluedo game? A bit later than the 70s? I'm going to have to watch the rest now, to see who the murderer was

It's quite good fun, isn't it? Forerunner to the one that Susan Calman did last year.

I remember it well. Jon Pertwee was the host and Patrick Mower and Liza Goddard were the regular panellists. Every week there would be two guest panellists, so a panel of four. I recall them having a few American guest panellists. I can remember George Savalas, from Kojak (Telly's brother) and Lyndsey Wagner, The Bionic Woman were among the guests.
I think Cluedo was on in the eighties, presented by Richard Madeley. Unlike the board game, it was a different person murdered each week (not Doctor Black). I think it ran for about three years and each year they changed the complete cast. We had a different Colonel Mustard, etc each series. I think June Whitfield was one Mrs White and Liz Smith was another. Tom Baker as one of the Professor Plums stands out in my mind, because he used to stand there looking totally blank with his staring eyes.

Yes, apparently there was a show called Cluedo in the 90s. I was watching a Poirot episode yesterday (The Hollow), which featured Lysette Anthony. I looked her up on IMDB and found she'd been in Cluedo. I looked that up and the User Review on that page mentioned Whodunnit, so I looked that up and then Googled for YouTube episodes.

Now watching A Date for Death and if that huge clue is right, I know who it is. But then again......

It's quite good fun, isn't it? Forerunner to the one that Susan Calman did last year. I just looked that one up, cos I thought there had been the intention to do another series, and was surprised to find 'Armchair Detectives' started showing in November 2017. Can't believe it was nearly three years ago!

They didn't spare any expense on Jon Pertwee's studio set, did they?

I don't remember it originally but I've watched a few and have the rest waiting to be watched.
The first series was hosted by Edward Woodward and one of episodes had Russell Hunter as a guest who played Lonely opposite Woodward in The TV series Callan. Another episode had John Pertwee as a guest who then took over from Series 2 onwards. (The pilot was Shaw Taylor though) It was actually created by Lance Percival (who can be seen in Twice Round The Daffodils soon on Talking Pictures) and Jeremy Lloyd who created Allo Allo.
The sets in the first few series were cheap as chips, but later on the panel was put in the set. So if a whodunnit was in a bank vault, the bank vault set was where they'd solve the crime. My favourite episode is in series 2 with Anthony Valentine, Margaret Lockwood, Patrick Mower and Robin Nedwell. Valentine asks to see his clue again and says something like "well I'm glad I asked for that. It's all clear now!" Lol, totally reminds me of 3-2-1 in the way the clues are vague. (Also he was in Callan with Mower and Justice with Lockwood, so like a mini reunion! And a joy for me as I Loooooove both shows but especially Eliot and Peterson in Justice) Mower bloomin' loved it! I think he did every episode of series 3 and did lots of episodes in the other series, more than anyone else. I saw one with Norman Bowler (Frank Tate in Emmerdale) as a panallist and then appeared a series or two later as a suspect! He'd probably have been there as "Softly Softly Task Forces Harry Hawkins. Norman Bowler."
About 24mins in!

I love the way the detectives taste all the poisoned drinks and know exactly what the posion is! And now we know where Thatcher got her famous saying about the Germans from!

I've never heard of it. Sounds interesting, might give it a go. All those names of the 70s. Definitely a trip down Memory Lane.

Terry Scott is funny as a panellist. He's getting properly involved in it. Just told one of the officers that he'd sack him for not following proper procedure!
