Yes, it was that young DC (Phil?) who works for Geordie, wasn't it. Apart from Geordie and Margaret, I don't think we know anyone else at the police station.

Really disappointed with Geordie, Sydney should really tell him how sad his daughter is. Leonard will probably do what most gay men did in those times and take a wife, sad for all really but who knows it may be a good outcome for both, many have married without the 'passion' of so called 'love' and been happy for years. Many gay people on either side of the partnership often found themselves in relatively good relationships with their spouses, more often than literature would suggest with its need for drama and sadness. If two people actually get along and like each other things can work, it can be a problem if whichever one of them is gay cannot put this element aside, but not every gay person is sexually inclined, no more likely than anyone else to be that way.
My mum had a friend who was married with 5 children and the husband regularly got arrested for picking up (or trying to) men in public toilets etc. It was a huge sadness for them all, the children were teenagers at that time and all of them knew and were bullied or got into fights etc. My mum's friend loved her husband and would never think of leaving him and he always said he didn't want to leave her but it was a sad state of affairs especially for their children. They couldn't escape it because his name would be published in the Court Round Up and he often went to prison for 2/3 months. He had also been court martialled from the Navy previously and this had meant they had to leave their lovely home in Plymouth and move back north. I often think about them when story lines like this come up. He died long before being gay was just accepted like it is now. I wonder if they have been able to reconcile the states involvement in making his behaviour illegal and unacceptable and love him for the kind father he was to them all. And he was a lovely man.

I did, but it was late. It seems like Sidney and Leonard are destined to follow the new church leaders orders. Leonard looked a bit uncomfortable that that dinner, it looked like he wanted Sidney to save him. He could marry and live a happy life but he wouldn't be true to who he is. It's such a shame.
And the scene at the end!😲 well that was, erm, well yes, I think it was, Arhh, yes well!*cough* Geordie!

Yes - interesting contrast in the two final scenes. Sidney and Amanda cling to each other one final time in the knowledge that any amorous relationship is out of the question, whereas Geordie and Margaret - well, er, hammer & tongs...

Hehe, I also loved how there was half a ton of blankets around the...'main area' 😉 while Geordie was going at it. It must be so it can be repeated at 8pm on Drama!
Sidney and Amanda was more pure and chaste. None of the men are really truly happy. Sidney can't be with Amanda and stay with the church especially if she's divorced. Leonard won't be happy with the people the bishop (?) Wants him to be with. And Geordie, although he's happy for now with his work colleague, (her name escapes me!) he's got the guilt of cheating on his wife and the possibility of losing his kids if she walks out. But it's the 50s would she do that or would they live 2 separate lives under the same roof?
I'm enjoying this series again.

I don't think I can be bothered to keep watching.... might be wrong, because I haven't read all the books, but it seems to me they've moved a long way from them One very important person in Sidney's life has been ignored completely Wouldn't matter, but Sidney and Geordie have become such unpleasant characters IMHO ... Oh well, can't like every programme

I know, I can't see that woman thinking it's the start of the rest of her life, I think she's just having fun until Mr Right comes along. Which makes me think what is Geordie doing? I didn't think things were bad with his wife, I thought the marriage was solid, with its ups and downs like any marriage. It makes to interesting viewing to see what happens next.

This applies to my own life completely out of the blue. My love of my life of 36 years since I was 16, turned my life upside down last year, completely out of the blue. I wish that on no-one else, it is awful. My last 12 months as well as that, every area of my life has taken a massive blow. Hurts like heck to see someone else going through the same.

LoopyLobes, I'm so sorry. It must be hard if it's out of the blue. If a marriage is having a tough time but it's down to both parties, either work commitments or drifting apart, then it's probably not going to be a shock if it breaks down completely or if there's infidelity because you'd have recognised the signs weeks, months or years before. But for it come out of nowhere with no warning like with you and Geordies wife if must be a shock with many questions Geordie should have spoke with his wife if he was unhappy so they could both figure out why, if he still felt there was no future in the marriage they would have at least both tried.
Captainmouse, the fact she's married must have completely passed me by!

I am enjoying this series, but I have to say there were two big anachronisms this week, the series being set in the 1950s.
The first was police use of firearms. I thought they (famously) were not issued with guns here at that time, except possibly for certain well trained emergency units? For Geordie and his team to wade in with what looked like 19th. century revolvers in Boys Own Paper style seemed frankly ludicrous.
The second was Bonnie and Clyde. Before the 1967 film starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway was released here, just about nobody in this country had heard of them. I suspect this was a sop to a possible transatlantic audience.
That out of the way - the three main men's relationships were in focus again. Geordie knows it's wrong but can't stop, Leonard knows it's wrong but thinks he must start, and Sidney knows it's wrong but - oh dear!

ARGGGGGHHHH! My recorder cut off before the end. What happened after Sidney knocked on Amanda's door? (...why is my mind screaming 'euphemism'?!) U cant believe it's done that...well I can.
I felt the most for Leonard. I hope he gets more screen time cause I'm intrigued as to what's going to happen next for his character. Will he actually go through with the wedding? Will Sidney step in and stop him? Will he meet someone else?
