Grantchester is going festive.
ITV have ordered a one-off 90 minute Christmas special.
This is in addition to the previously announced six episode third series, which will air in 2017.

I wonder where they will go with this? Sidney can't marry Amanda, even if her husband agrees to a divorce, and remain within the Church, and he can't very well live in sin and remain a priest.
Grantchester will look pretty in the snow.

I was jolly fed up when he got off with Amanda. I really did not take to her at all, constantly hanging around like a wet weekend. Perhaps she will be killed off to solve the Church problem? Did any of this part of the plot happen in the books or have they gone off piste? They may of course ignore all the ecclesiastical issues just to give us a romance which fits modern mores.........

Yes, they might, grr. I haven't read the books but I believe that after Amanda married money, Sidney married someone else and lived happily ever after. That person was in the TV series but didn't stick around. Can't remember who she was though, and why have her there at all if they were going to write her out. Unless she's coming back of course!

I've read a couple of the books, Sidney marries the German lady whose husband was murdered from the first series. They have a little girl. He also has a succession of curates, and in the last book I read was about to move to Ely. But then they wouldn't be able to still call it Grantchester. Looking forward to the Christmas special though!

Thanks for that Linseed. Did she play a musical instrument? I have a feeling the person I'm thinking of was a violinist but I don't remember the name of the actress or the character, which isn't very helpful!

In the books she is a pianist, and teaches music. Can't remember who played her unfortunately!

Yes I am looking forward to it too! I think it's cause there's not that much on that I want to watch or that's new so I'm looking forward to this as it ticks both boxes...and obviously James Norton helps! Actually I want to know what's been happening with Leonard too after his daliance with that 'gentlemen'.

Enjoyed this apart from the too-long scenes involving the woman giving birth, or rather the sound of her - why do they have to make such a racket about it on TV, we all know it's a painful business, why dwell on it in this annoying way?! I found myself thinking, 'for goodness' sake, let's crack on with the murder story'...
The fiasco passing for an 'alternative' Nativity play was good light relief!

I never made that racket and it annoys me when they do it on TV.
