Thanks for the confirmation thecleaner, he'll save his pennies. To save pennies....and if you are near a Cineworld, get an unlimited card from them (£17 a month) - see as many films as you like a month.....I've had one for years.

That's what I do, thecleaner. I like it because I don't have to choose (financially) between films and sometimes I go to ones I am not sure about just because it's not costing me anything. It's Also a great way to while away a wet Sunday afternoon.

"Absolutely Fabulous"
Anyone seen it? It has been given 4 stars by most reviewers so a friend and I went to see it. In both our opinions it is vastly overhyped. I had expected it to be a bellyfull of laughs but it only managed to raise just one single chuckle from me. It could have done without all the myriad of "stars" making fleeting appearances since they added absolutely nothing whatsoever to the "plot". The appearance of Kathy Burke will baffle non British viewers since they will wonder who on earth she is. The ending is very, very odd and in my personal opinion, somewhat distasteful. No doubt Jennifer Saunders will make a packet from it but I will forever wonder why?

It does look appalling. I used to like Ab Fab at the time, but I wouldn't enjoy it now. Think it's a case of topping up pensions/shameless moneyspinner! If it appears eventually online etc, I'd watch to see how bad it is.

Just seen Now You See Me 2. If you liked the first NYSM, then you will like this one. I enjoyed it. The plot and tricks are even more far fetched but there are some good laughs too. The new "Horseman" fits in nicely and good to see the return of Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman. Daniel Radcliffe plays a baddie. I'm pretty sure there will be a third film.
Also saw preview screening of the new Ice Age film. The young boys sitting near me loved it but I didn't think it nearly as good as the other films in the franchise. i know its a children's film but most of them go have jokes for adults too, they were rather thin on the grounds and I found all the nonsense with the flying saucer frozen in the ice then being freed a distraction from the main plot.

Didn't this come out today [strange day] - saw the first one, just OK - going to see this one tomorrow....'Harry's' in this one.

Yes, it came out today. I had the day off so trotted off at midday to see the first showing. Quite an interesting one coming up on the trailers. About a couple of 20 somethings who managed to win a contract mioving (or supplying - not sure) arms for the US government because they came in at $53 million lower than the next bid. Also Star Trek which I hadn't realised until now is about the first year of the original Enterprise. No wonder the Starfleet uniforms look retro!

Unless you are in to fashion you probably won't recognise half of them.
There is a stupid scene in which Saffy is dashing about madly supposedly trying to find her daughter and ends up singing karaoke surrounded by dozens of drag queens. (Does anyone know the name of the song she sang?)

Someone in the Green Room saw Ab Fab & really enjoyed it. I shall go with an open mind. The trailers look funny. I'm seeing it tomorrow, then Ghostbusters on Monday. Might see the new Tarzan film at the weekend.

Ab Fab. MThe song that Saffy sings is "Just Seventeen". I've always loved it and thought the lyrics rather poignient. They always "spoke" to me and suited Saffy so very well. www.pbs.org/inthemix/educators/lessons/selfimage2/atseventeen_lyrics.htmlI didn't find the ending distasteful, well no more than Ab Fab general is. In fact it reminded me of the final scene in Sone Like it Hot. Thought Jane Horrocks's Bubble was just the wrong side of overdone but it was quite fun to celeb watch (many of them definitely not in the fashion industry). I had seen the (very long) trailer several times & it spoilt it a bit for me because they were by far the best jokes. If you liked AB Fab & haven't seen the trailer umpteen times, you will love it. Ghostbusters next week

My favourite so far is Eye in the Sky starting Helen Mirren. Have you seen "Good Kill", Dee? A similar take on EitS, but focused almost entirely on just the drone operators, and their moral approach, rather than the political emphasis. But, yes, EitS is an excellent film. Have just seen Money Monster which is entertaining enough but not much else, but if George Clooney looks back on "Ocean's Eleven" and compares himself with Julia Roberts, then and now, he does not come out favourably. Still, handsome chap though. I've not seen Ab Fab, but I might on the basis that I've never seen the series. I think that will make me a better judge of how good, or bad, it is. This is because there are not many instances of sitcoms making the transition to the cinema successfully. For some reason they always take them away on holiday, stretching a flimsy joke too far in a typically unrealistic situation; The Inbetweeners is probably a good example of a good transition, to film, because four mates going to Ibiza together is realistic...the staff of Grace Bros. is not. Next film for me will be Star Trek but not with the enthusiasm and excitement that every film since TWOK had given me even if, ultimately, they were disappointing (The Final Frontier, Insurrection).

Apparently the Mr Sulu character is gay, with a husband and daughter but George Takei (the original actor who is gay) has stated that although he is delighted there is a gay character, it "twists" Gene Rodenberry's creation.

Meant to say that if you haven't seen any of the AbFab series, you need to know that Bubble has always worn really outrageous clothes.

Loved it, loved it, loved it - the new Tarzan film, The Legend of. {watched it today} Critics aren't crazy for it, but I thought it was a rollicking adventure, with just a bit of politics and a perfect Jane, played by my Margot Robbie.
