Friday (8th) at 8 pm.
Having toured her own land, Susan now visits the rest of Britain, in a vintage camper van called Helen. The first episode she visits Devon and Cornwall, taking in Tintagel Castle, a gnome museum, and Dingles a fairground museum.
At the moment, it's the safest way to travel anywhere.

I approve of the campervan's name! But I hope Susan isn't going down the route of overexposure. Her New Year's Eve programme was dire – not her fault, they always are – but I'd like to enjoy her doing what she does best from time to time and not appearing all the time. This does sound very similar to her Secret Scotland programme which was very enjoyable, and at least she's not pretending they are secrets!

A delightful start to her Days Out. a visit to Clovelly in Devon. Traffic is forbidden, it has very steep cobblestoned streets, and if you wish to live there, you will be interviewed by the Lord of the Manor himself. The views of, and from Tintagel Castle were stunning, as were the aerial shots. Wonder if a drone was used.
Campervan Helen sported a 60's look, with large flowers painted on her. Very cosy inside. Next week it's The Lake District, looking forward to the rest of the series.

Me too - and I thought even more than for its steep cobbled streets, Clovelly was famous for its donkeys which were used to cart stuff up them. The donkeys never got a mention!
My son tried to visit Tintagel Castle a couple of years ago, and to his great chagrin found it closed to the public, as they were still completing the new bridge that Susan crossed fearfully over. Obviously they've finshed it now.

Thanks Marion I think the repeat might have been cancelled as I can no longer see it on my recording list or EPG. 😐

Love these programmes as Susan is so jolly, and interested in everyone she meets, and her laughter is infectious! Nice bit of armchair travel.

Now that Winterwatch is over, I'm back with Susan as she tours around the UK. Last night she was my own Country, Wales. She tried paddling a coracle (Small round boat), Visited the Blue Lagoon, for a spot of swimming and cliff diving. Then onto St David's (Britain's smallest city) where she popped into a sweet shop and learnt a few Welsh words. Then she was given some Laver Bread (made out of seaweed, not really bread, more a thick pate.) She ate some with tinned chicken in a white sauce she cooked near the beach.
Next week she is back in her own territory visiting the Highlands. Last episode too. I like Susan, she has a great sense of humour.

You can see from the faces of the people she talks to that they are enjoying meeting her The camper van land speed record attempt last night was very funny!

The series finished last night. Shame! Loved it. Found out she'd named the campervan after her favourite actress, (Dame) Helen Mirren. The Dame should feel proud. Magnificent Scottish scenery, combined with a pleasant, jovial presenter made for a great travel series. Kayaking on Loch Lomond looked fun.
