I was horrified at the raft idea too. No-one would get me into a submarine in the first place though. I get claustrophobic in a lift so couldn't stand being sealed up in a metal tube under the sea ..... especially one with nuclear reactors added into the mix!

I did spot that a couple of the scenes where the detective is talking to the former submariner on the sea front were filmed in Largs.

Maybe another marmite series? I’ve sat through 3 episodes and I’m just finding it tedious now, so get the raft ready please, I want to get out

I missed the first episode but have now binged the first three. Who knew a car chase through Glasgow (some of whose streets rival those in San Francisco for steepness) could be exciting? It's all a bit daft, particularly the amount of alcohol that appears to be freely available on board a nuclear submarine on operations! Good cliffhangers at the end of each episode. But I'm enjoying it.

I'm really enjoying it too, and always look forward to the next episode. I'm sure what it depicts diverges frequently from the reality of operations aboard a Trident submarine - there must be plenty of things the programme would not be able to find out, or to broadcast if they did. I'm still finding it compelling viewing, and the general naval procedures (as opposed to those relating specifically to a nuclear submarine) seem convincing.

It was very interesting watching the programme on C5 last night about life on-board a real nuclear submarine (HMS Trenchant) and comparing it with Vigil. I see exactly what those who have commented on the difference in the space available in reality - or rather NOT available - mean. I don't know how the crews manage to live in such cramped conditions for months on end. There were no women on board either. I don't know if that was just a quirk of that particular crew although it was specifically mentioned that it was all male but seeing the lack of living space I wouldn't be surprised if it is a navy rule.

I love the idea that you can put a nerve agent in a plastic bag and carry it around safely! It all seems a big hassle if the purpose is to force Vigil to surface when they've already done that in the first episode. I don't quite understand either why Vigil in particular is being targeted when there are three other nuclear submarines.
Nonetheless, the cliffhangers have been very well done. It was fairly obvious that Cal MacAninch was going to have a more significant role, but it was a nice twist. I can't see how Amy can possibly get out alive, but I feel confident she will! Not so sure about Glover, whose goose may sadly be cooked.

Yes I thought the plastic bag was a bit flimsy to say the least. I also thought the foreign agent was the Lieutenant but then he came up with the bleach idea so apparently not. I had forgotten who the replacement submariner was in all the action. Who knew though that a plastic bag and a gallon of bleach was all you needed in a sarin style attack?! I must keep my home supplies up to snuff just in case. I cannot understand why Vigil has been kept in place with all these murders, traces of poison all over various bunks and general disasters going on. Couldn’t the Captain abandon his position? Are we to assume that if he did the UK would be invaded by Russia? Should I have had this second glass of Pinot Grigio?
I must say I have liked Rose Leslie in this. So much better than as drippy Maya in The Good Fight.

Is this something else we need to start carrying around everywhere we go "just in case" along with the mask, the hand sanitiser, the wet wipes ........ ? I've rather lost track of the sequencing of the goings-on aboard Vigil but wasn't some vital system disabled when they snagged something a couple of episodes ago and hasn't their communication system with the outside world been damaged? The admiral ordered that they were to return to port but the message couldn't get through. It will certainly be interesting to see how it is all brought to a conclusion ..... if it is a real conclusion, of course. I shall be so annoyed if some things are left up in the air so they can do another series.

Well, I thought it was daft up to the end, but it was certainly tense up to the point where the villain was disarmed. The villain, who is rather wooden IMO, was signposted from quite early on so no surprises there, though I'd have liked a reason for his actions, either conscience or money, or blackmail perhaps. As it was we had no clue why he acted as he did.
After that it all turned to mush, with the inevitable rekindling of affection between the two female leads and Glover's rather extraordinary recovery, only to be faced with his family and a decision perhaps about what to do next. At least the XO died a hero – shame as I rather liked him after his snotty beginning in the first couple of episodes.

I could hardly see what was going on for a lot of it, but it did manage to maintain the tension. It also had quite a lot of time left for loose ends, unusually. I rather enjoyed it, thought it was a tad bonkers but good entertainment.

I rather enjoyed it, thought it was a tad bonkers but good entertainment. Me neither marion. As I have just said on another forum, it is about time the makers of programmes realised that television is a visual medium and so viewers really do need to actually see the action! It really was a ridiculous story and, given that I'm glad it's over, I don't know why I bothered to keep watching. I didn't even like any of the characters with the possible exception of the XO.
