I couldn’t find an existing thread but maybe it’s there….
I watched the first of the new series yesterday and enjoyed it. I thought the bakers seemed a very nice bunch, although I reckon Freya will prove irksome later!
I did think a gravity defying cake was a bit of a challenge for the first week. Didn’t they use to build up the level of complexity? Sorry to see Tom go but yes, his cake did end up as just a stacked sponge!

And Maggie! I hope the Prue/Maggie joke doesn’t continue, Prue is already fed up with it so hopefully not I watched some of the early series during lockdown and they certainly had more manageable challenges at the beginning  |

Yes, I watched it. I thought it very good as usual. I did laugh properly out loud at the section prior to the opening credits with Paul and Pru with Noel and Matt dressed up singing a country pop ditty. Thought that was hilarious.

These cakes have been popular for a few years now, so there will be books and props available. On that basis I didn't think it was a step too far. You are going into a national baking competition and the first two rounds, rolls and malt loaf were quite standard baking really. Although I'll admit that malt loaf may be less popular nowadays, it is still probably in most mainstream UK recipe books and is still sold everywhere.

Welcome back to GBBO. Lovely mix of contestants but Freyja is no advert for the health benefits of veganism, imo.
She is so pale she makes Noel look rosy! It is her choice of course and nothing to do with me, but if it is going to be mentioned every week then I think viewers can comment on how she appears.
And, imo, that is "about to drop".

The biscuit challenge is always useless to me.
They generally ask them to make a moving model or tower or such and it's nearly always gingerbread biscuits.
Then they don't give them enough time to make them look nice and work.
I mean Jurgen won with a windmill that didn't look like it would stand up to one child giving it a whirl.
Then there's the inevitable collapse because nobody could wait for glue to set.
Nobody working on a commission like this in a patisserie would be knocking it out in 4 hours.

Both Guiseppe (sp?) and Juergen are excellent - and at least the family were IN when he phoned to say he had won again this week.
Felt so sorry for the lady whose rocking horse collapsed - the danger of choosing something other than sturdy gingerbread.
The snooker table was great and I thought the vanity mirror was a very clever idea.
Great series with lovely contestants.

Didn't Channel 4 have a problem a couple of weeks ago? A fire or something.
