The Tourist will premiere on BBC One on New Year’s Day (Saturday January 1st) at 9pm.
The Tourist tells the story of a British man (Jamie Dornan) who finds himself in the glowing red heart of the Australian outback, being pursued by a vast tank truck trying to drive him off the road. An epic cat and mouse chase unfolds and the man later wakes in hospital, hurt, but somehow alive.
Except he has no idea who he is. With merciless figures from his past pursuing him, the man’s search for answers propels him through the vast and unforgiving outback.

Here's the trailer:
On iPlayer, it is described as a mystery-packed, six-part thriller charting one man's search for his identity.

This sounded completely unappealing to me, but just read in the paper that it is from the brothers behind The Missing and Baptiste. So I’ll be tuning in.

The RT is making a big song and dance about this. I'll give the first episode a try but I'm not expecting to like it much. My problem is I'm not a big fan of Jamie Dornan - I got thoroughly fed up with him in 'The Fall', and found him slow and boring in 'Death and Nightingales'.

That was excellent. Especially the last five minutes!

I liked it. Felt a bit like they were going for a Fargo vibe with the quirky characters. The end was intriguing - I hope they can maintain.

It didn't appeal to me at all from the trailers and the bit I'd read about it so I didn't bother to watch on Saturday. Today a neighbour was full of how good it was so I've just watched episode one on iPlayer .... and she was right, it's good and I'm hooked! No idea what on earth is going on though 😄

OK, I'm enjoying it a lot more than I expected. Wasn't expecting such a collection of whacky and almost surreal characters!
The mobile phone coverage in Australia must be the envy of the world. You can be underground in the outback inside an oil drum and still get a signal...

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed episode 1. The filming of the car chase was excellent, with the sand blowing around. Very good characters, love the policewoman. When she was saying to her git of a fiancé that she wanted to lose weight to go back to looking attractive, and instead of giving her a positive “you do!” he said, “don’t worry, you will”!!!!! Well, an F Bomb was launched at him from here! I hope he is dumped by the end.

I came on this morning to say that, Marion. She should dump him immediately!
Still enjoying it. I wouldn’t trust Luci as far as I could throw her.

This is very Fargo. Getting serious Billy Bob Thornton vibes off the big hairy fella. Wasn't he the detective in the Iceland crime series?

Now watching the 3rd one. Whoever the Williams are, they really studied the work of Noah Hawley. As did the director, Chris Sweeney. Loads of Fargo moments in this.
