How weird to fly home before you get your medal.

I see Daley Thompson and others have criticised the world champions who have chosen not to take part in the games but will be in Zurich for the big prize money.
Singled out was Fraser-Pryce who is in Birmingham with her team, staying in one of the hotels and using training facilities but is not competing as she is going to Switzerland at the weekend.
I think he might have mentioned Tom Daley and Max Whitlock too, plus others.
He does understand that they need to make a living but says they'll regret not winning a medal.
The organisers have said it's disappointing but for many sports in the games this is their ultimate competition and if some athletes haven't come it gives other athletes the chance to win gold.

I am inclined to agree with Daley but I suppose at the end of the day bills have to be paid and, like the rogue golf tournament, who among us would REALLY turn down huge pay days?
Has Tom Daley not retired now from diving? There seem to be some brilliant British divers on the way up.

That's unfair on Max Whitlock. He has said that he needed time off and if the Olympics had been when they should have been, he would definitely have competed in the CG. It's been a lot of big international competitions squeezed into a shorter space of time after a whole year of barely training, never mind competing.
I agree with him about Frazer Pryce though.

Tom Daley has also said he needs a break, but he will be back, so far.

I thought Tom Daley was at the CG and competing! Didn’t he carry a flag? I know he has a programme this week about being gay in certain Commonwealth countries.

I think he carried the baton into the stadium at the Opening ceremony?

He is a sort of sporting ambassador now but I don't know if he has officially retired from competing or not? If they introduce competitive knitting he will win a gold easily - some of the things he has made are stunning! I particularly liked this little bag to keep gold medals in!

I am watching the women's road race. It is through Warwickshire and Warwick past the castle. Lovely scenery!

It's gorgeous isn't it? They have been so lucky with the weather.
Great that people come out to cheer them on too.

It's nice that people can see the gorgeous scenery we have. The Midlands is often ignored on travel programmes.

Did anyone watch the men's 400m final? It was hilarious and nearly tragic.
The English fella was favourite. And was well in the lead around the bend. And then suddenly, about 20m from the line, the Zambian came flying past like he had a rocket up him! They cross the line, second and third thinking "WTF just happened?" The winner is rolling around like he'd been shot. I'm thinking "alright fella, don't milk it." He gets up and staggers over to the crowd. His fans are slapping him on the back and jumping on him, making him buckle at the knees and hit the ground hard. He's breathing really heavily. He rolls into a recovery position and lies there, not moving. Now the crowd is waving at the stewards and pointing at the Zambian, who really does not look well. I was worried he was dead! Last I saw there was medical staff around him and he was on his hands and knees.

Didn't see that Miranda - I trust he is ok.
Well done to the England ladies hockey team, great win against Australia.
Enjoyed the diving this evening too.

Decided to use my data and VPN to watch the mens 10m diving - what a cracking final! The last dive to clinch gold was just superb - worth the wait.

Didn't see that Miranda - I trust he is ok. . He was crying his eyes out on the podium, bless him. Why do photographers make the winners bite their medal? Talk about a cliche.
