It’s easy to watch, so I’m enjoying it. I got a bit frustrated when Ridley was calling for backup and Carol was ignoring it. She actually looked at her phone at one point when it was making that awful vibrating sound (on silent, HA! I’d sooner hear Crazy Frog than that grating sound). Then she acted surprised when she picked the phone up to call her wife and saw the missed calls. Minus points to the Director for that scene; it was badly done. I certainly wouldn’t be keeping Ridley on as a consultant after his behaviour in this episode, but hey, maybe the writers are trying to portray flaws in their characters. Bit clunky.

Basic mistake though to call an off duty colleague and not the station.
Just wondering, I don't know, do the police use their personal mobiles for communication. Wouldn't they have work phones or radios in their cars - even a consultant. Lewis does in Lewis.

Basic mistake to set off after the bloke at all, when you're only a consultant. I have a hard time believing police consultants would be taking any of the initiatives that Ridley does.
I'm afraid I'm finding Ridley (the character) mostly either dull or annoying, and the DI Carol more engaging than he is. It's interesting enough to keep watching, but I'm a bit disappointed. I'm yet another who's never watched Line of Duty, but I thought Adrian Dunbar was excellent in 2 series of 'Blood'. Less so in this.

I think it's a sackable offence to use your personal mobile for police business. Or whatever the equivalent is in the police. Unless, of course, you're in the Met. Then you can do what you like.

Another nay-sayer here. What a disappointment. It might have been better as hour-long self-contained stories which would have cut out some of the waffle. Really, though, the premise is daft – OK to call Ridley in to advise on a case that had links with a cold case for one story, but that doesn't work for the whole series unless it is about cold cases, an idea that's already been done much better by Waking the Dead and Unforgotten. I'm not surprised the DCI doesn't want him around! And his judgement in indulging a young man who was running a true crime podcast, even if he had been completely innocent, was seriously flawed.
It is beautifully filmed though – the opening scenes of the wind farm in the fog were hauntingly lovely. I don't think we've had a show set in the Pennines before. And I do like the closing shots of Adrian singing, though feel a bit for Julie Graham whose role so far appears to be to smile knowingly while having no involvement in the story.

Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax.....
I was so "impressed" by the first episode of Ridley that I forgot all about it last Sunday! Reading the comments on episode two I won't bother to find time for it on catch up. Such a shame because I do like Adrian Dunbar.

I was also surprised to see Ridley in the interview room questioning the suspect. I would have expected that to be done by a serving officer, well 2 of course. And didn’t Carol (like her as a character) call him sir at one point? Well old habits and all that, but he no longer has a rank.

Well I thought it was so obvious that I thought it was a red herring and I went for the wife who found out about the affair. Looks like I was double bluffed. Incidentally the actor who played the culprit was very impressive.

It would have been less obvious if it was the girl behind the bar in the Snooker Hall.
We were told the man the victim was with was a serial adulterer. For a minute I thought she'd be someone he discarded. Someone they'd overlook, but no.
Scenery is fab.

If you had brought a white silk dress to use when singing at a funeral, would you risk wearing it on a date with someone two days beforehand? No, is the answer to that. Especially as that date was just pasta at home, not a posh restaurant. Arabbiata sauce, red wine, really?

No, and it didn't add anything to the plot other than allowing them to touch each other. At least I don't think so, I nodded off before the end so don't actually know whodunnit. We were being led to think the sister did so I'm assuming she didn't! Unless someone can enlighten me I'll have to brave ITV catchup.
Why would Julian, who sounds delightful (not) leave his house to Julie, knowing there was a body dumped there?

I also nodded off and missed the final 15 minutes, waking in the closing seconds. It was then I discovered that I could rewind my tv, and watch the final 15 minutes** (of course having watched the final seconds I knew whodunnit, but had no idea how they got there).
** I have known I could “pause” my tv, and watch on “delay” which has been very useful, but didn’t realise I could rewind to quite that extent!

I too thought that about the dress- red wine and red pasta sauce and you have to wear it to an important occasion in 2 days time? Tempting fate are the 2 words that come to mind!
