I also nodded off and missed the final 15 minutes, waking in the closing seconds. It was then I discovered that I could rewind my tv, and watch the final 15 minutes** (of course having watched the final seconds I knew whodunnit, but had no idea how they got there). ** I have known I could “pause” my tv, and watch on “delay” which has been very useful, but didn’t realise I could rewind to quite that extent! You can rewind up to 4 hours with my recorder. It's a useful function if you miss anything.

Rewind is very useful, I use it quite often especially when I have to nip out to pick MrC up from somewhere! (No good, of course, if you accidentally change channels first though as I found out to my cost!) Pause too, although it only seems to pause for a maximum of half an hour(ish) and then it jumps to live again. Can rewind though if necessary.

I thought it was quite depressing this week. Ridley seems to have quite a talent for making friends with guilty parties! I’m wondering if we’re working up to him having a meltdown in the final episode next week. I’m also wondering if the in-depth investigation his snarky former boss has instigated will uncover something to do with the fire that killed his wife and daughter. Can anyone else see a possible massive twist coming at the end? Or am I hoping for too much?

Last in the series tonight. Good - I won’t miss it. And if they make another series I don’t think I’ll bother Pretty poor really Even the song at the end had banal lyrics

I don’t think this series did Adrian Dunbar justice really. It just wasn’t terribly well written or directed imho, and some of the acting fairly poor. And that Cal chap (dreadful acting) didn’t seem anything like a narcissist to me.
Also, why did he call it the Public Prosecution Service if it’s set in England rather than the Crown Prosecution Service?
Ridley was a pretty hopeless detective I thought. He made lousy decisions and ignored procedure which could result in a case being thrown out. He wasn’t a maverick, just sloppy!

Awful really. He would just have been given the heave ho in real life.
Did it explain how that young man (Cal?), even knew where he lived. It's not as if police officers advertise the fact and retired officers who've moved even less so.
Ultimately Ridley was lucky not to be on a charge.
The singing is God awful too.

I thought the twist was going to be Ridley getting shot when the police marksman mistook him for the villain. Then I thought he still might be dead if he sailed away with his wife. Instead, he sailed off with Julie Graham. I fully expect that if it does come back they will be romantically involved. I hope it doesn’t.
The music was all down to Gordon Haskell, who seems to find love so depressing you wonder why he bothers.

I wondered if Ridley was going to get shot by the police marksman too. I would probably watch a second series, but wouldn’t miss it if there wasn’t one, if you know what I mean

I had a flashback to Rig 45 where exactly that mistake happened!

I actually thought the last one was the best of the lot. I certainly believed Ridley was dead near the end. The song was awful! I think the lyrics comprised of two sentences repeated over and over. His voice would be OK if he was singing something with a bit of life to it, but that one was a total dirge! If it comes back, I’ll probably watch.

I haven't watched the final episode yet but have it recorded. I wasn't going to bother but you are giving me hope, Hoody! I do agree though that after the tour de force that was his performance in Line of Duty, and also Blood where we didn't know right until the end whether or not he was the villain, this has not shown his talents well. Nor Bronagh Waugh who was so good in The Fall as Spector's wife with her own accent and as the twin sister of the victim in one of the series of Unforgotten.
A pity - the premise was fine and I'm among those who liked the singing, but the flashbacks were confusing and unnecessary and the dialogue was awful. And yet again, the concept of someone who shouldn't really be there coming along and showing the police how to do their job is a tired old trope that is reminiscent of Miss Marple.

I never saw Line of Duty, Helen, so possibly haven’t seen Adrian Dunbar at his best. I just remember him as the dying weirdo from Ashes to Ashes who could travel between both realities. Ridley is like Hamlet in comparison. Anyway, hope you enjoy it!

Ah, yes, Martin Summers! He was good in that. I think his first TV role, certainly the first I remember, was in the first ever episode of Cracker in which he played an amnesiac who may or may not have committed a crime. He was knee high to a grasshopper then and had lovely auburn hair!
I'd love to see him on stage.

And yet again, the concept of someone who shouldn't really be there coming along and showing the police how to do their job is a tired old trope that is reminiscent of Miss Marple. The difference there is that Miss Marple isn't a police officer and she doesn't have to follow procedures. She can talk to anyone, she doesn't need a warrant, she doesn't need witnessed and corroborated interviews. She does, however always tell the police who she thinks is a criminal even if they're not the murderer. In fact, she goes out of her way to point them in the right direction. Ridley in the end isn't a very good officer. He talks to anyone who'll listen about the crime, he let's people off. He's not just a maverick, he's a danger to his fellow officers and jeopardises the investigation. We're all used to TV detectives being a bit rogue but he goes beyond that big time. Completely oversteps his role as a consultant. He'd only last one job.
