Darius tried to persuade Tommy to forget about going after Catherine because he knew it would bring down extra trouble for his empire… Tommy’s fate might have been sealed at that point
Definitely more to that chap in the ‘safe house’ I think

When we saw inside that house I thought "You were better off in your cell Tommy"!

Just read the feature comment in next week’s Radio Times about HV. The commentator says
‘Binge watching is all well and good but would HV have made as much of an impact had the episodes been uploaded to iPlayer in one big big batch? Call me a Luddite if you wish, but it feels as though waiting a week for each cliff hanger to be resolved has helped galvanise the audience to the point where we have now reached Linemof Duty levels of expectation.’
I think he’s right. We’re all talking together about it is it’s happening (more or less) and sharing our thoughts and fears in a way I don’t thing we would have if we’d seen the whole thing at different times.

I have always tried to avoid this, but recent reviews have convinced me that I should at least give it a try, so I am starting at the beginning, and am slowly going to work through to now.

I take it you mean all 3 series. I promise you, it will be worth your while.
We may well do the same here. Although I do remember stuff from the first two, some recollections are a bit hazy. MrC cannot remember it at all, but I know he loved it and is usually better at remembering these things than me. But I couldn’t interest him in watching this final series ‘as it’s the third series’ which has been infuriating for me as I know he would enjoy it. Very much.
Oh well, it won’t hurt to rewatch the older series.

I read that 'fans' of the series think that James Norton is too handsome to be a psychopath! Surely that is the point. He can be very persuasive when he wants to.

I never realised it took so long cos they wanted to keep the same actor for Ryan.

I read about that - good decision and perhaps the other main actors all had commitments that made it easy for them to agree to wait?

I agree - I can't see any advantages to Darius and his criminal enterprise in holding on to Tommy, and setting up a new life for him in Spain is a lot of compensation for Tommy agreeing to take the rap for the body in the reservoir. Tommy isn't a criminal king pin, he's a violent thug who acts on impulse. He was hired to abduct Ann Gallagher back in the first series – raping and half-killing her were not on the agenda. And the murder of Kirstin McAskill, which wasn't on anyone's agenda, was one of the most horrible things I've seen on mainstream TV. He's a liability, a loose cannon that Darius can't afford to have around.
Then again, I'm sure it wasn't a coincidence that Nevison talked about flying the family out to his villa in Spain! Just a red herring, hopefully.
I think you're right about Beetroot Man and his very large knife. Tommy is younger and stronger, but if he is a killer then I suspect Tommy has had it.

Was that the one where he ran the police officer over, then reversed back? I felt physically sick when I watched that and have never forgotten it. As you say, one of the most horrible things on mainstream TV.
I was very pleased to see beetroot making an appearance on prime time TV because it never normally features. I love beetroot! So I hope it isn’t tainted by association with a killer. 🤭

I know, that was horrific. And shows how important the sound quality is on programmes. We didn't actually see her but the sound of the van going over her was more than enough. I still remember it as well.

There are a few scenes from television series that stay with you over the years and TLR reversing over the young policewoman is one of them for me too. The more I think about it the more sure I am that Tommy has been sprung from prison in order to do away with him. Catherine said in an earlier episode that Darius is standing for the council so that could have a bearing. Tommy knows too much and can't be trusted not to drop Darius in it.

I wonder why they did not just have him 'taken out' IN the prison?
From the moment the remains bobbed up in the oil drum he was a risk to Darius - could have mouthed off at any time. Instead he was persuaded/agreed to plead guilty in order to have his day in court and make his escape.
Quicker to pay Knuckles from B Wing to beat him to death in the prison kitchen with a rolling pin.
Meanwhile, the house he is now in, is that where the two yobs were staying?
