You wouldn't want to be offered a cup of tea by her! Having read various newspaper pieces about the background story, I am surprised that I can't recall ever hearing of Mary Ann Cotton before -she made quite a career of killing people! I thought this production was really good.

I felt it was a bit rushed. Acting and settings were fine but they seem to gallop through the stories. Jonas Armstrong (Robin Hood - Joe Nattrass) is still looking good!

I liked this. It conveyed a bit of a feeling of the poverty and hardship of life at that time. I had never heard of Mary Ann before - surprising in view of her prolific career.

Neither the RT nor today's paper liked this, but I found it quite interesting. THey say her maximum body count could be as high as 21, but I am assuming that is without the first four of her children who died in infancy and before she bought the bottle of arsenic for the bedbugs, so talk about a woman surrounded by death!

Very rushed, but compelling. I wish they'd gone into more detail, taken it all a bit more slowly and made it a longer series. Sh*gging that fella came from nowhere, I would have liked a bit more of a run up to that and that first time it seemed as if he p*netrated her through several layers of clothing - how clever is that?!

I thought exactly the same about that first encounter! Then decided..... how to put this delicately..... it was, perhaps more tactile than just quick sex. But then clothes did not seem to hamper his progress at other couplings so I was no doubt wrong.

I can understand how she got away with it for so long. So innocent looking I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't wait to see how it pans out next week.

I've just watched the first part and I'm lost. It seems to covered about 8 years, judging by the children, but no-one else looks different so I have no idea what is going on. And there's this bloke in the shop and then suddenly it's four years later and he's looking at her in the park and she remembers him! It's a shame cos it's not giving us a chance to get to know her.
