This looks like it might be a good replacement for lovers of Downton and Mr Selfridge.

I enjoyed this but agree with the Radio Times article about cramming everything in the first episode. Kara Tointon has a lovely singing voice in a completely different role from the last one I saw, that of Maria in The Sound of Music!

I watched the first one but it's not my kind of thing.

I have recorded this to watch later. I thought Kara was wonderful in The Sound of Music, and I cannot stand the film so was really surprised. But I thought the musical theatre version they did was terrific.

I enjoyed this first episode. Bit of undemanding froth with great music, handsome RAF officer, elegant good-looking women, appealing dog ..... will do me for a few weeks.

It may have been a Monday, but it felt like a cosy Sunday drama - I enjoyed.

I didn't think much of this. It reminded me of the Upstairs Downstairs remake which I gave up on. The sets were great but I thought the writing was poor and the acting flat, IMHO. Still it may perk up in episode 2.

I really dislike war time dramas and this holds little of interest. I am jaded .It would be interesting if I could get a copy of the book "Britain can Take It" by Quentin Reynolds who was an American news correspondent in England during the Blitz. The period was covered by Negley Farson who was also an American news writer. There were gatherings of groups of important people like BBC broadcasters and fiction writers etc. Negley Farson and Noel Coward met. Noel Coward wrote propaganda plays so there could have been collaboration there. I have a list of autographs which were gathered at two meetings of famous men ( mostly) I have more research to do.

I have recorded this but haven't got round to watching yet – too many other goodies over the last couple of weeks. I think it might have been better to postpone this for a few weeks, when it wouldn't have had so much competition.

I agree about a Sunday night slot being better for it. It fits in the Downton Abbey, Mr Selfridge void. I'm getting more into it as the episodes move on but I think there needs to be more over lapping and maybe interesting storylines. It's nice to have the elegance of the time but there needs to be a good script to go with it. Home Fires which was about a village in wartime Britain was cancelled after 2 series and that was really good so this needs to up it's game a bit. I like Stephen Mackintosh but the posher voice he's using is very monotone and slow. He says "there's a bomb coming, we're all gonna die!" the same way he says "would you like one lump of sugar or two?". Having said all that I'll watch until the end. And I sooo called the academic son being gay from the first 5minutes!

You can sort of fill in the blanks as it goes along in terms of the story line but the bit about him being a deserter from WW1 was a twist, why did he tell that chap what his new name and job were - ah yes silly me, he had to tell him or the script/story wouldn't work out would it!!
Younger son being gay, never saw that one coming lol!
Mum's new toy boy lover as a spy is what my girls have hatched up!
