Oh, yes he could be a spy or trying to get his hands on her money.

I didn't spot toy-boy lover as a baddie at all! Must be losing my touch. Sorry that Billy was killed, but it was rather teleposted with him having goodbye scenes with everyone. I thought the air-raid scenes were well done. Used to be easy to mount this type of location in the fifties when there were still bomb-sites all over London. More difficult now, I imagine. Bit of pash on the horizon for Emma and Joe, I think.

Oh, yes he could be a spy or trying to get his hands on her money. Oh my word, we were right! I thought there was something dodgy about him but blackmailing Adil and making Toby think he's ok with him being gay when he's just using him is so nasty...but then he is a spy? Twiddle moustache! I could see something happening with Joe (the American journo) and Emma from the last episode but I thought that the RAF pilot would come back just in time so nothing developed but it seems like he might be too late. I prefer Joe, he's grown on me as the shoes moved on and I think Emma would be happier with him. As much as she likes the RAF pilot his mother would never be happy with Emma as a daughter-in-law so would make her miserable. I agree you could see Billys death signposted from a mile away but it was so sad when it happened and I admit I had a bit of a cry at Peggys reaction, when she was smiling to her boss and then got outside and broke down, it's was so raw and emotional it just got to me. I hope this gets a second series.

I too hope it gets a second series, prof. The characters are growing on me as it goes on.
Joe and Emma would be good. Hope they don't do them falling in love then RAF pilot being badly burned and Emma going back to him - a la Susan Hampshire in The Battle of Britain.

Home Fires went two series and then got cancelled so hopefully this will do better. I have a feeling RAF pilot will have a close call or will be injured and decide that life's too short and 'oh go on, I will have thee' and he'll end up wanting Emma back. And if he has been injured Emma will feel like she can't say no. I think Joe and Emma having more similar backgrounds and have more to relate too. I'm not saying the classes can't mix, but back in the 40s it would have been even more difficult and I think the mother has made it clear she wouldn't be happy with anyone other than her own class, she tried to set Toby up with a girl who had a title, she wants that for her children and I get the feeling if she doesn't get what she wants everyone suffers. Emma would be better off out of it, but who does she love more, RAF pilot or Joe? ...hehe, I have to stop trying to guess what's going to happen next!

Nah ...... guessing is such fun! Wouldn't put it past someone to see her with the journalist and then RAF boy will go on a blinder, get shot down and be in a prisoner of war camp, believing she simply moved on.............of course their is still time for her to find out she is pregnant (that's always an obvious one to throw in the pot).
If the young barman doesn't want to get involved in any of this malarkey he should just get another job or at the very least tell Toby what is going on so he can feed rubbish to gigolo spy man.
Joe the journo will do a piece on the hotel and it's staff and inadvertently expose the manager as a WW1 deserter as the person whose name he stole to escape will have family who don't know him or some such scandal or other.
Even worse Lady "I couldn't possibly mix with ordinary people" might find out she is pregnant!!!!!!!! I don't know how old she is supposed to be but one of her sons is only in his early 20s and the other just finished uni. So if she married young, she could be giving birth.
Obviously someone is going to twig the singer and her man, too obvious to call.
Still love the clothes and would love a WVS green coat!

Well it is still as obvious as the nose on your face but I am still enjoying it. How will they tie everything up in the final episode - one big bomb might sort it or do you think they will leave it hanging in case a second series comes along.

In this series, whenever two people kiss you can be sure someone who they haven't noticed will be watching...
I've kept with it - it's easy watching though, as you say, obvious.
There will be a bomb (well, explosion) because we saw it at the start of episode 1. Probably a cliff-hanger ending to keep us guessing who did & didn't survive the blast, while they decide whether to go for a second series. Audiences have been slowly declining to around 4.5m - is that enough to renew it? Don't know.

I think 4.5m nowadays isn't too bad but maybe not for a Monday. I've always thought this should have been on a Sunday night in that period drama slot once occupied by Downton, Mr Selfridge and Home Fires. I'd like a second series but 9pm in a Sunday.
I think the manager was injured in the explosion but I suppose if they do a second series anyone who doesn't want to come back will be the ones that'll die. I can see an annoying cliffhanger which may not get resolved...like on Home Fires!

We shall see the figures for the upcoming "SS GB" adapted from Len Deighton's book. Another "what if" scenario like "The Man In The High Castle" I don't think that there will be much of a leap of the imagination.

It's the last episode tonight at 9pm ...and then Broadchurch series 3 starts in the same time slot on the 27th Feb.
I hope Lucian get's his comeuppance and what about poor Toby, I'd like for him to get back with Adil but I hope he doesn't do something silly. He's in a position where he can't be who he is, he's being blackmailed, his mother is about to marry the blackmailer and could lose his family if they find out about his personal life and even his liberty if he's giving state information to Lucian. He's in so deep.

What a strange ending. It seemed like there was another episode coming next week. We don't know that Betsys died, the whole seeing Sonny while singing seemed like she was but it could be a coma and we don't know if Lucians body will be blamed on the bomb. Hopefully they'll be a 2nd series that will show what happens next but if not I'm going to be a bit annoyed with this very opening ending.

I am assuming that Betsy died, having seen Sonny beckoning to her. She was very haltingly singing A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square as she walked towards him but then it changed to Vera Lynn singing as we saw Betsy on the ground. As far as I can think, the only ones we can be certain are dead are Betsy and Lucian. Oh and Toby and Adil because they weren't at the hotel, although they may have died, along with the entire cast in the same air raid! Having followed and enjoyed the series I shall also be furious if that is IT!
