I have saved this for this afternoon. I watched Maigret last night which I quite enjoyed.

I recorded Maigret for today. In fact, got loads recorded cos if it was on a commercial channel I recorded it. Only watched BBC live. Which is how I came to watch Eastenders for the first time in 15 years. Not as miserable as I remember it. No deaths, births, bombs, shootings, divorces or train wrecks.

I suggest you get out whilst you're ahead then, Miranda. I am putting my 50p on a suicide!!!!! (Don't worry folks, that is a wild guess, I haven't seen a spoiler.)

I enjoyed it, the new head nun had at least a bit of compassion for the wee boy although I had a girl friend that went to a Catholic school and she at the age of 11 said they were all bitches, physically and mentally abusive. I just wish the doctor's son would grow up quickly and go off to university, he's the creepiest actor I've known and if he gets another part after this I'll eat my hat. Having said that if anyone from the BBC reads this he's in a job for life.

I so agree about Peter Perfect. As soon as I saw him I thought why can't he go to boarding school? He only had about one actual line, and that was one too many in my book.

I had forgotten that I usually end up on the verge of tears when watching Call the Midwife, until it happened again last night. It is the compassion of the nuns and midwives that causes it. I was so afraid Sister Ursula was going to be horrible to that poor, sweet little boy....and then, she wasn't.
I liked the way they highlighted how few legal rights abused wives had in those days, something that may have surprised younger viewers. Thank goodness things have changed.
