Birdie Porridge. It being said bad to give bread crumbs because when wet they gum up baby mouths we decided on porridge oats- the cheapest I could get to used as a basis. Then a generous glug of sunflower oil and scoops of bird seed. All mixed and with bits of other stuff added from time to time mixed adding any oil from cooking too...… old dried fruit and crushed nuts all go into the mix.
This concoction seems to be very popular and we put it in several places in the garden - open places and close to bushes for the jittery ones. All manner of stuff disappears including biscuit crumbs and even dried bread crushed because it does not go to a glue in the oil. The customers hang around for it and sometimes make a protest racket if anyone goes out in the garden and before they have had their porridge.
