OMG. That explosion was massive. There were windows blown out and orange fire. The DS and Blake Harrison's character have to be dead. To survive that would be stupid. They walked into a confined space as the explosion happened, big enough to take out all the Windows upstairs. ...unless there saw the gas tank on fire and got out the vault in time, lessening the impact. Can't wait for next week.

I can't seen anyone who was in the building surviving. Who was inside – Bradfield, Gibbs the two older Bentleys? What about Kath? Jane herself wasn't inside, was she – and of course we know she survives. I got a bit lost towards the end – where was David Bentley when Jane followed him and found the necklace?
Only one episode to go. I will watch but I'm disappointed in this series and won't be sorry if it isn't recommissioned.

I think the father Bentley has gone back down the hole into the cafe. He was asking for his son to come but he wanted to get the big money from the safe. Bradfield and Gibbs were in the vault. Jane had gone to the garage and found the necklace. I can't remember where Kath was. I'm guessing Kath dies just because she was saying how she was getting promoted and moving to CID and that just sent alarm bells ringing. Usually when something good is going to happen to a character the have to ruin it!

Well, it's over and I'm afraid I agree with the Telegraph's description of it as a damp squib: www.telegraph.co.uk/tv/2017/04/07/prime-suspect-1973-finale-review-action-packed-climax-still/. Such a shame, it could have been fascinating to see the young Jane starting to develop into the older character. Endeavour succeeded so it can be done, but this really didn't IMO. Stand-out performance from Alun Armstrong as usual – I don't fancy his chances back in prison when Clay Whiteley finds out the bank raid was a failure, and he's lost one son, murdered another and presumably been deserted by his wife. I also thought the sergeant was very good, but the rest didn't convince.

I actually enjoyed this and hope there is a new series.

No wonder Lynda La Plante walked from this series. She must have been so disappointed in this production.

I agree, I'd quite like another series, with Gibbs taking over as the guv. But less of the romance and more of the action.

Really enjoyed it, the explosion was done very well and everything was wrapped up nicely. Doubt there's room for another series though to be honest.

I liked it as well. But only cos I wanted to see what happened in the end. The actor playing JT is certainly no Helen Mirren.

Next up, Miss Marple, the Early Years with Jane kicking Florence Nightingale's ass and getting laid by soldiers. <yawn>

It would appear this has been axed. Not surprised really.

I'm not surprised either. I do wonder why TV producers take a popular novel from a well-known and best selling author and then change everything that made the novel so popular. Yes, some things have to change but the characters? Not so much.

I knew when I saw this thread bumped that it would be to saw it had been axed. I haven't read the books, but I grew to like the series as it went on. I think the casting of the male lead could have been better, someone I could understand when he speaks! If a book if popular it's for a reason, so stick to what's been written and take on Le Plants (?) advise. She knows the characters inside and out.
So ITV are giving us one off dramas such as Little Boy Blue etc or cancelling show that could run, Tennison, Halycon.
