I have just spotted that series 5 of this show is being repeated on ITV4 in the middle of the night. The next episode is 12.15 on Wednesday night ( well Thursday morning really!). The previous episodes are still on the ITV hub but episode 1 only has 3 days left. That's this afternoon sorted then! Trouble is I can't remember how many series they showed before they shoved it onto the ITV Encore subscription channel.

Thanks for the heads-up, Marion. It was on Freeview ITV up to the point that Paige had discovered her parents' secret and was in the process of being recruited herself. I have a feeling that this was the end of series 2, so if that's right there is a gaping hole! That said, these very long series tend to move at a snail's pace in terms of the overall story arc so it might be possible to follow!

Yes you're right. I have been watching episode 1 whilst making constant reference to Google for recaps of series 3&4! It has been a slow old process but I think I am about there now. I gather series 6 will be the last one so I hope, after all my effort, they show it on a Freeview channel rather than stupid ITV Encore.

I watched a lot of these but then they sort of disappeared, I never knew where they were being shown so I lost track. They were very gripping.

I ended up buying them because they were shown all over the place. Worth the money - a great series.

I have never understood ITV 's treatment of this show. It is very well regarded yet they only gave a decent slot to series 1&2.

I quite agree. I suppose it's to do with funding as ITV Encore is a subscription channel. The Good Wife was also messed around with though it remained on More 4 after it was booted off Channel 4.

Well, I've now watched what turns out to be the final two episodes of series 5 and have to say I was a bit lost! No way around that now I suppose other than buying the DVDs. Good to see they're still wearing wigs and eyewear!

Do they have the box set on the ITV hub then? I thought there were 13 in this series and have only seen 5 or 6 to date. It has moved night next week though, two days later IIRC.

Episodes 3–6 are there; this week was episode 6. I've missed series 3 and 4. There are brief synopses on IMDB which I can use to get the bare bones – which may be enough as the story doesn't really move on much from week to week.

I can hardly believe this but next weeks RT shows series 6 of The Americans starting on ITV 4 next week on Wednesday 4 April at 10.00. It doesnt air in the US until tomorrow! Can this be correct?

Funnily enough I was doing an IMDB check earlier on, trying to grasp the elements of the story I've missed by not seeing series 3 and 4. I thought Pastor Tim was given a new job to get him out of the way of Paige who now knows her parents' real jobs and wants to join them, but I had the impression this week that he is also in the Soviet camp. And I still haven't worked out who Tuan is.
I wonder if they actually will go 'home' and if Paige and Henry, who is a real all-American boy, will go with them? As we've seen from Martha's life, it's not a bundle of fun.

Ooh, I never got the Soviet feel about Pastor Tim but I cannot for the life of me understand why he was happy to keep their espionage a secret. Especially in those days. And yes, they got him a new job to remove him from Paige I thought.
I find Paige's blank acceptance of her parents' espionage very odd as well. She and Henry have just been raised as Americans with no hint of Soviet sympathies, so for her to just accept all this and want to join in beggars belief for me! But what do I know???!!! I hope Henry grasses them all up!
Isnt Tuan a Vietnamese refugee from the West Coast whom the Centre brought in for this operation?
The chap playing the Russian who is under suspicion in Moscow, is it Oleg?, was in Homeland this week. Also talking in Russian with subtitles which I much prefer to Meerkat accents.

It was just something Pastor Tim said this week made me think he was in on it. I may have misunderstood as I'm struggling to keep up! I suppose Paige hero-worships her parents and she has no idea of the reality of Soviet life, she has bought into their explanations of trying to achieve world peace (oh, the irony!). Henry isn't going to like it if he doesn't get to go to his posh school, is he!
Oleg is the rather dishy Russian who walks around with his hands in his pockets. His father is ex-KGB father and his mother spent some time in a camp, as we now know having to prostitute herself in order to survive. And Nina, who had an affair with Stan but I think may have been Oleg's girlfriend (though I may have made that up) was executed. So I wonder if this is leading to Oleg being turned?
