what adverts from the past do you remember fondly, or were so excuriating that you still wince at the thought of them?
i loved the Smash aliens and the BT penguins (chop chop, busy busy, work work, bang bang) and the Creature Comforts characters advertising fuel (was it electricity?). Then there were the suggestive Flake adverts.

I used to like the coffee ads with Anthony Head and Sharon Maughan. It was like watching a serial.

I used to like the Squirrel adverts for Heinekin. They were voiced by Victor Borge.

One of the worst ads I've ever seen was PuppyMonkeyBaby shown during Superbowl halftime in America. Some kind person gave me a link.
It still haunts me now.

Many, many years ago there used to be an ad for Gas appliances or just to use gas, and the lady on it was called Mrs 1970. You can guess that the ad dated from the early/mid 60s. It was certainly a newspaper & magazine ad and I think there was a TV version too.
I've never been able to find a trace of this anywhere though it was a very well known at the time with the excitement of North Sea oil and gas just beginning to build up and give us a brave new world of the UK self-sufficient in energy.

The Smash one was completely brilliant! I liked the ones with Maureen Lipman as the Jewish mother/grandmother, but can't remember what the product was.

There was an impressive ad in the mid to late 80s that always caught my attention, it was when the electric companies were being sold off (I think) and it used classical music (the song I can't recall which). There were guitarists, a couple on a skating rink, a fairground big wheel all lit up...
Gas was mentioned upthread - do peeps remember "If you see Sid, tell him"?
Going back further than that, I loved the Milky Bar Kid
