I'm willing to wait and see what they do with it. It's a good cast and the short trailers look promising.

Apparently The Times had a front page photo of Becky with {SPOILER:Click to Show}"her ill fated husband, Rawdon Crawley" . Nice spoiler! Luckily I already knew, but my sister - who's reading the book at the moment - didn't!

I saw the photo but, as I don’t know the story, it didn’t mean anything to me.

I was set to ignore this, but it's one of many holes in my literary education - and this production has Suranne Jones in it (plus Martin Clunes, Frances de la Tour, Anthony Head, Michael Palin ...) so now I'll have to watch at least episode 1.

This was good. Like the way the dialogue fairly rattles along, even though it's rather modern in style. Great acting all round! - will be looking forward to the rest of it, now. (Great to have a drama on a Sunday again - but beware, they're showing Episode 2 tomorrow night!)

I very much enjoyed this too. Looking forward to tonight's episode.

I'm afraid I didn't really like it. It felt rather lifeless, most of the cast was bland at best and it didn't seem to know how to deal with Becky. I know we hardly got to see anything of Martin Clunes, but so far he seems too amiable to be Sir Pitt. David Fynn was good as Jos, but if anything needed to ham it up a bit more!

I'm undecided at the moment. I don't know the story, never having read it. It was very slow.

I liked it, it's not subtle, but neither is the book.

Just watched my recording and I enjoyed it...which surprised me to be honest. I only decided to record it at the last minute on the grounds that, if everyone began talking about it I wanted to know what it was like for myself. I haven't read the book so don't know if it is deviating from it but the acting was excellent and it was visually very beautiful. I shall keep watching I think.

I've just watched it, and enjoyed it too. All set for ep 2 tonight, which I'll probably watch "live" & save BBC2's Mother's Day for another night.
I find I have the book - unread, and at 700 pages likely to remain so I'm afraid, therefore I'll never know what liberties ITV have taken with it.

I read this many years ago but can't remember the finer plot points! All I'd be good for is if A married B instead of C like might happen in a new Agatha Christie!

I’m enjoying this, have never read the book and so didn’t know what to expect.

I’ve never read the book so I don’t know how different this is but I really enjoyed it, I liked the more modern delivery of dialogue too. I thought it was delightful, like eating a lovely light soufflé 😊

So do I. I'm quite a fan of more modern dialogue in this sort of production. Not everyone is - I remember a bit of a furore some years ago when Jane Austen's 'Emma' got the treatment, but I think it works well in this.
Yes, Material Girl over the closing credits tonight. The openings of the first two episodes have featured All Along the Watchtower - not the Jimi Hendrix version, rather too psychedelic even for this production, but one by a duo called Afterhere:
