I have only just started watching this episode but am very surprised at the way his ACC speaks to Bill in the open office. Swearing at your Chief Constable??

There doesn't seem to be much respect for bosses anywhere these days. Our office sounds like the parrot house at the zoo, and the bosses just go along with it, even though some of us older workers find it difficult to concentrate. We've got an apprentice who is being mentored by a chap three years older than him, who is training him to refuse to do work when it's brought in, citing "too busy".

Oh Muriel. You've let yourself down now, unless you did a crafty switch.
And I was very annoyed Bill put her on the list as until the last moment she has been the best cop in it!

Yes - although, should it have been in the evidence store in the first place? She could be seen as righting a wrong ... since the DNA on it was illegally (corruptly, even) obtained without permission and therefore not legitimately usable in evidence.

Was it in the evidence store? It was in Bill's drawer at one point. I didnt quite know why it was illegal to test it because I thought the police would often grab your cup or water bottle if you left it in public view. Or is that just in Law and Order? It made me think that if ever I was offered a can of coke in a custody room I would have to remember to take it with me!!! Not that I have ever been in a custody room!

I remember they did it in CSI quite a lot, but maybe it’s just an American thing.

It’s illegal to use dna in evidence if it has not been obtained by consent. But you’re right, most crime dramas do this. My retired former police officer friend says she views it as light entertainment with no connection to actual reality

I was glad they found Alma's dad at the end.

I stuck it out. Highly improbable, unrealistic and inaccurate - but I quite enjoyed it. I found the case each week interesting, never turning out as I expected. The main characters - Bill, his daughter and Muriel - were well played.
I'd watch a second series, though I'm doubtful that there'll be one.

Once I had put aside the crazy, I really enjoyed it especially Bill, Muriel and the daughter. Given that Muriel seemed to be the only member of CID to do any work, perhaps if Rob doesnt want to come back we could have Wild Muriel!!! And funnily enough, talking as we were upthread about the illegal DNA , I watched a show on 5USA last week where that cup swiping was done twice in less than five minutes.

I was the same, Marion. I enjoyed it once I stopped expecting it to make sense. And I reckon Muriel could carry a spin-off. Her and the AC.

He was brought in to rationalise the force, and by the end he’d done that - although not by the means expected. So would they keep him on? I do think there’s enough mileage in there for a second series. They could be working to bring down the Russian.

It grew more watchable in its own quirky way. I'd like to see more.

Odd series but different - I enjoyed it. Liked the girl detective - Muriel? She stole the show.
