While watching Minder in the early hours on ITV4, it struck me that the show has a bloody great theme tune. There's a few other Brit shows with them. US sitcoms used to have a good theme tune, but not so much now.

...theme songs used to be an integral part...time and money spent to grab the viewers attention...to catch the essence of a programme in a piece of music often written to order was quite a skill back in the day....

I haven't hear that Family At War one before.
I do have to admit a liking for a theme tune with a song, something you can singalong to. One of the most famous is probably Only Fools And Horses. "No income tax, no VAT, no money back guarantee, black or white, rich or poor/broke, we'll cut prices at a straw/stroke."
And as a kid my aunt would watch Cheers and I loved that song with the opening pictures. She has a black and white telly so for ages I used to think the opening titles were really black and white as they were old photos, but I eventually saw it at home and realised the photos were sepia toned with bright dashes of colour added.

I've always enjoyed the opening theme for JAG (the show that spawned NCIS).

Cold Case:
Not just a good theme, but they did a good job on the way they handled music all the way through. I really loved the one they did with Springsteen music.
