I spent part of the programme trying to remember why I knew his name and face until the penny finally dropped that he had played Will Shakespeare's nemesis, Robert Greene, in Upstart Crow.

I enjoyed it and found it funny, but then a child was run over at the beginning so I dont know where that fits in.

I enjoyed it and found it funny, but then a child was run over at the beginning so I dont know where that fits in. I wondered about that too. It came as a bit of a shock when it happened and I wasn't sure if it was part of the programme or a trailer for something else, especially when it didn't seem to fit with anything that happened. It was a bit strange.

It sounds like the type of quirky show I like. I will keep an eye out for it over here.
The child struck at the beginning and then not referenced.
Sounds a little similar to the original Twin Peaks. Which started with the murder of Laura Palmer.
Even though the theme at the heart of the plot was - thematically at least - the solving of the murder, it really wasn't.
It was a character study of quirky people living in a quirky little town. The murder just sort of always hovering in the background. Episodes would go by without it being mentioned.

Perhaps the radio interview will be the catalyst for all sorts of secrets to come out that Maggie didn't mention and doesn't even know about and the road accident will be one of them: a hit and run that someone has covered up maybe? I suspect this has started out seemingly as a gentle comedy about village life and will turn into a darker story.

Just watching this now, seems ok so far.
Lots of adverts for cruises, is anyone booking one any more. I wouldn't....
Mark Heap played the earnest postman in Larkrise to Whatsaname.

He was also the weird neighbour in Spaced.

First thing I remember Mark Heap in was wacky hospital comedy Green Wing. Most recent was Euro multinational thriller The Team (series 2), in which he also had a straight acting part.
I think that too - they all have secrets which are actually nothing to do with what Maggie thinks.

He was also the weird neighbour in Spaced. Yes, that's the first thing I remember him in. He does a very similar act (shtick) in Spaced, Green Wing, Friday Night Dinner, Upstart Crow etc. I quite like him when he does something else; he's good in this (so far). Yankee, I haven't seen Twin Peaks (I did the see the film and hated it), but I don't think this is quirky in the same way, or like Fargo, or Utopia, for example. This is more mainstream than that. It seems good so far though, and I will keep watching.

The Trouble with Maggie Cole is....she's a ghastly woman! I hope she gets her comeuppance.....although I have a feeling she may not since she is the eponymous character and therefore the "heroine".
