I'm afraid I have developed a Martin Freeman aversion over the years. Either the stuff he is in is not good enough or it's him or maybe both. He just always comes over as trying too hard and having one dimension and when I have seen him on chat shows, he just seems incredibly full of himself and again trying to hard to impress. Sorry, I am sure there are loads of fans out there as he appears to be very popular.

I've been seeing trailers for this for a while so I might give the first one a go and see what I think.

It's OK but not very gripping.

Did you see him in Fargo? He was completely different in that!

I watched it. Thought it was very good, and reminded me a bit of the true case series Martin Clunes did.

It’s ok, will keep watching but it seems to have been filmed with a hand held camera and I find the ‘shakiness’ a bit distracting.

I think this is excellent. It isn't "gripping" in the sense of a whodunit drama because it is about an actual case that was all over the media at the time so we know the outcome. For me the excellence comes from the acting - including Martin Freeman but especially Imelda Staunton and Siobhan Finneran as the bereaved mothers - and the way the writer has made so clear the dilemma the Detective Superintendent faced in trying to find a missing girl.

This gets more harrowing as it goes on. It brought me to tears last night, seeing the effect of the court case on the two families. Sometimes it is difficult to keep in mind that I am watching a re-enactment and not the actual people involved and worry a bit that it might be construed as voyeurism. I assume - hope - the families were consulted before the programme was broadcast.

Powerful stuff is this. They are so chucking that policeman under the bus (so to speak) I remember seeing a newspaper report of his disciplinary hearing and not really understanding what it was that he had done wrong but all has become clear thanks to this programme. I do understand that suspects have to be given rights but I still think common sense and a sense of the greater good has flown out of the window at times. There is a summary of the entire case on Wikipedia for those who don't mind knowing the outcome before A Confession finishes.
