I resurrected the original thread, Linseed, I think from when the series was commissioned.
Perhaps they could be merged?

My paper confused me as it said 1966 not 1996. I'm enjoying it so far although I don't normally like things which keep flashing back. Looking forward to Part 2.

I thought I’d read that there was a complete story every week, so I was very confused at the end of the two hours… are there two more feature-length episodes to go?

I wish they hadn't started with the murder of a young woman.

I've had to put subtitles on as the volume is down low so I'm not catching everything said.

I've had to put subtitles on as the volume is down low so I'm not catching everything said. Me too. The Karen Pirie of my imagination didn't look anything like the one in this series: mine was tall and willowy while this one looks as though she's bunking off school! 😁 I am loving it though and looking forward to the next installment.

Ditto with the subtitles, I thought the sound was very muzzy.
I enjoyed episode 1. Thankfully it was nothing like Ridley, 😂.

I find I put subtitles on a lot these days they do so much mumbling.

I enjoyed it to. I've also read the book which starts in 1972. This is set in 2003 with the flash backs to the 90s. So the timeline has changed and so have some characters. You're right there were 4 students in the original storyline and as I recall no podcaster. The producers must have had to look at updating police procedure - or hey, maybe not! Perhaps that's the DNA conversation too, because I don't remember that one in the book............it is a while and I could be wrong.

I thought they handled the flashbacks pretty well. I found them easy to follow and it helped having the students look completely different to each other, both old and young. Unlike in a lot of American dramas where the actors are all of a type.

I have just had a look at the two Karen Pirie books I own ( Still Life and The Skeleton Road) and she has become a Detective Chief Inspector in both.

So far as I can see they have merged 2 of the students into one. The one they call “weird” is a mix of “weird” and “mondo” in the book. The other 2 are pretty much as written, and there was no podcaster as there were no podcasts back in 2003. The thing is I don’t remember Karen Pirie at all in the book, I seem to remember that one of the main voices in the book was that of the older Alex, one of the students. {SPOILER:Click to Show}2 of the 4 students die in the book, so with the cutting of one character I don’t know if he will die or not. By the end of the book only Alex and Weird are alive.

In the book Karen Pirie doesn't come in until the end, the last few chapters. They go through the case first. You get that as it happened then Karen. In this they're doing that in flashbacks.
