The casting of the younger and older Weird is really very good in terms of their appearance and mannerisms, not so much the other two.
It wasn't entirely clear to me how much of what Weird was seeing before he died was hallucination and how much real – I'm guessing that Grace was actually there and it's that which precipitated his fatal seizure.
Both male sidekicks are a bit wet, aren't they! Rather unlikely but never mind, the gender role reversal point is well made.

Even though I remember the book I am still gripped by this, it’s so good!

At the end, didn’t we see Grace standing near Weird holding a hammer? Or was that one of his hallucinations. Mind you, he would have to know her for that to happen.
Oops, sorry Helen, I posted before reading yours on the last page.

Yes, but I'm only guessing that Marion as he never met Grace so wouldn't know what she looked like. He could still be dreaming about her though.

I reckon she's been doing her own investigation into her mother's death.
Whether that means she killed the other bloke is a different matter.

Oops, sorry Helen, I posted before reading yours on the last page. I thought those last few scenes were trailers for the next episode. 🙄

Oh!!! Very possibly, 😂😂. I didn’t see a Next Week flashed up though. No it didn't but some of the scenes didn't seem to fit with what had just gone before. The same thing happened after the first episode too although I couldn't remember by the next one whether we had seen some of the action or not. A bit confusing I thought.

There's 3 episodes altogether so you have one more to go.

Excellent, let's hope they make another.
Laughing because I was sitting in that pub in Stirling (final scene) a few weeks ago, waiting to go and see Val McDermid give a talk.

Very good, same killer as the book, though there are some differences, and I’m now reading one of the more recent Karen Pirie books - Still life. She’s a DCI in this one. I would love to see more series, I hope they do them.

It was good. Lauren Lyle (playing Karen) does look very young. I know her mainly from several seasons of 'Outlander' in which, to start with, she was playing a teenager - still several years younger than her actual age at the time.
I'd watch another series if there is one.

I enjoyed that. More please. I couldn't help thinking that her assistant Minto could easily have been played by John Gordon Sinclair in his younger days. He was given some quirky traits that were very JGS.
In fact, given KP's young looks, with a little strech of the imagination it's almost Gregory's Girl set in the Scottish Police !

I enjoyed that a lot. I too have seen the actress in Outlander where to me she was OK and this is quite a breakout for her I think. She anchored the show really well.
