Glad to hear we're going to get highlights on the BBC... oh, I really miss those distant days when we watched the Tests etc... But I'm confused about the list of commentators: Absolutely not surprising that Geoffrey won't be there given his health record, sad to seeing him having to retire though - as a Lancastrian it took me a long time to take to him But there's been no mention of Aggers? Is he still the official BBC correspondent? I'm assuming his wife might be one of the shielded, so he won't be travelling, but I haven't heard him on the radio...

Details are here:
On Geoffrey, he recently had a quadruple heart bypass, and is seen by the BBC as medically at high risk:
"Due to the current situation, Geoffrey is not part of the commentary team for the [West Indies] series," a BBC spokesperson said. "However, we are monitoring the situation closely and we hope to look forward to him making an appearance on TMS this summer."

I'm glad Isa is leading the highlights. She knows her stuff. I'm guessing Aggers isn't there cos of his wife. And TBH, I for one won't miss Boycott. The tantrums wore quite thin for me. But why no Vic? Has he retired?

Thanks for the link Fuller than the other report I's seen, I see Aggers will be in place Vic is primarily a journalist I think? He's probably concentrating on that at the moment

.....good to see the BBC making an effort and showing some England/Windies TM highlights from 1984......not England's greatest hour.....but they were playing Richards/Greenidge/Lloyd/Haynes/Marshall/Garner et al......so no shame in losing 5-0.......

I didn't realise the LBW law only started in the early 80s.

I think it was amended then, but it's been around as means of dismissal a lot longer than that ... 18th century I believe

What was the change? Benaud was talking about it being brought in to stop batsmen from padding the ball away.

.....back in the fifties when Richie played Batsmen padded out and knew they wouldn't be given out if contact was made outside the line of wicket to wicket.....so there was a law change introduced in the early sixties to prevent this and the batsman could be given out if the Umpire thought the ball would have hit the stumps.....looked like Mike Gatting was unaware of that change.....Richie certainly wasn't.....

.....shame about Geoffrey......but understandable.....I will really miss him on the cricket... He had a triple by-pass last year . But with the technology at their disposal Im sure something could have been worked out without him even leaving his mansion. Unless there is another reason.
