That is something I just ignore as there would be no story without him being in on the action!

Well police doctors, forensic scientists and others always seem to get in on the act so I just go with it.
It's not now, but even now, you can have your local priest be at the police station with you if you feel you are a vulnerable person and they know you. You can certainly ask to see a priest to pray with you. I don't think they'd get one instantly though.
I think we just have to presume he's not there all the time and only involved with the most interesting crimes!!

Penultimate episode and Geordie's survivor guilt and PTSD is surfacing.
He plays it well, in fact Robson Green is probably one of the best actors in the series.

Yes, quite powerful story lines but still with a touch of humour. Last night's episode seemed full and quite rushed. Other similar series would have taken ninety minutes or even stretched it into two parts. Enjoyed it.

Geordie is in a bad place isn't he.

That was a very dramatic episode, especially for Geordie. I do hope we get another series as I have enjoyed this one. I prefer Will to Sidney.

Well it left us with lots to go on, so if the actors want it I think they will.

I enjoyed that series. Hurrah for Leonard, boo for Johnny who thoroughly led Geordie astray. I still don’t like the prissy new curate much. I hope it returns… I hadn’t heard anything about cancellation.

I agree it was a good series with powerful back stories to support the crime story narratives. I also hope there is another series.

According to RT there will definitely be a seventh series, which was announced even before this latest one started its run, and has been filming since the summer.
However - tin hat on - I'm not sure I'll be watching. I didn't like S6 any more than the previous one and certainly not as much as when James Norton was in it. For me there are too many whiffs of modern values unrealistically transplanted back into its 1950s setting.

I'm not sure, mid to late 50s there was a growing campaign to legalise homosexuality or at least not to imprison people. It was supported by many doctors who did not like these men being forced to have awful treatments in order to stay our of prison, by prison governors who had to manage the safety of what were otherwise law abiding men, many clergy also felt that this was something that should be treated along the lines of an unmarried pregnant parishioner.
TV also had many men who were clearly gay if not public but who all viewers knew probably were.
Yes, there was still the majority idea that gay men were not normal but the idea that they should be sent to prison, lose their livelihoods, face public shame and have to move away was no longer as popular.
After all homosexual activity was never illegal in the merchant navy, it had always been legally accepted that men might do these things on long voyages. It was illegal in the Royal Navy, but rarely prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
My father, born in the 20s, served in the navy in WW2 and the only petition I ever knew him to sign and the only protest he ever took part in was to legalise homosexuality in the Royal Navy. He was adamant that if gay men volunteered for WW2 and gave their lives then they should be able to serve openly and not have to die unable to ask an officer to contact their partner or name another man as their next of kin. He had had to contact someone's partner secretly when they had died in action and he thought it was appalling.

Has anyone read the books? I’ve just finished reading the whole series of them . They are completely different to the TV series. The author has recently published a ‘prequel’ which tells the story of Sydney’s war service and his decision to become a vicar.

We watched the first episode of the new series yesterday. Will is getting himself in a pickle! Sidney seems very happy, but I can't say the same for Geordie!
