Sorry, I thought I'd posted my thoughts already. I was glad to see Dickens again, glad that Geordie said sorry to his wife and is putting things right with her (wonder if my errant husband still watches this programme we loved watching together), glad that really it ended rather happily except for poor Sidney. I have never been keen on Amanda so won't miss her, but I hope he gets over her very soon. Poor little Grace though.

I'm hoping they'll be another series, it's been left open for another series. I was so glad that Geordie and his wife seemed to getting back together and loved Leonard finally admitting his feelings for Daniel, I loved to find out what happens with them.

I did enjoy this series, even better than the last one IMHO. I thought Leonard was quite bold, going in for a snog that close to the marquee!

What a weird show this is - OH likes it. More soap than police/who-done-it. I was assuming part-way through last night that he'd leave the church and Robson (or is it Jerome?) would get booted out of the force for beating up a suspect, so the next series would see them establish the Grantchester Gentleman's Detective Agency. Oh and the curate would announce he was leaving to go and play keyboards with the Communards.

Loved this last one, everyone being put back in it's rightful box apart from Sydney, poor bugger. I'm going back about forty years ago now and our local vicar married his son to a divorcee, it's not what you know.............

Over the 3 series the show's focus does seem to have moved away from the crime solving and towards the main characters' relationships. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, as I've often found the detective side of it less than convincing.
Unlike some it seems, I like Amanda - and I wouldn't want to see a fourth series (if there is one) without her in it. Trouble is now, it's difficult to see how she and Sidney could still be around each other, and it's a big shame. Easy to say with hindsight I suppose, but they shouldn't have got romantically involved - at the start of the first series, the two were great buddies from childhood, so now they've each lost a friend (at least until time heals). In fact all the chief characters have made mistakes, which is good for the series I think. No real heroes or villains, just humans with both strengths and flaws.

Me too. The whole premise of the crime-busting duo is far-fetched, and Sidney not only sitting in on police interviews, but actually conducting them, is not credible. Still, if you put that to one side the buddy relationship works well and they've done a good job of reminding us that the 1950s was not such a golden time.
If there is another series I can't see Leonard being allowed to stay in the Church – the views of the boys' father were much more common than the tolerance everyone else, even the housekeeper, displayed. Given that the books were written by a son of the manse, I wonder what point he was trying to make as the Church really doesn't come out of this very well. I appreciate that the series has strayed far from the books, which I haven't read.
On the whole I prefer James Norton as a villain – he was more convincing in Happy Valley than in this, though of course that's also down to the writing and directing.

ITV (alongside U.S. co-production partner PBS Masterpiece) have renewed period drama Grantchester for a fourth season. There’s no word on the size of the order for the new series. {HUGE CASTING SPOILER}In somewhat unexpected news, one of the co-leads, James Norton, who plays Sidney Chambers, will be exiting Grantchester during the fourth series.
Casting is underway for a new Vicar.

I'm so glad for a new series, I really enjoy this. I'm upset about the spoiler though. But I suppose it was inevitable. I just hope the replacement is well cast. It they get that right it could go on and on, but get it wrong and it could be the end.

Good to hear there's a new series. The spoiler is a bit upsetting.
