Channel 5’s new Dalgliesh adaptation will premiere on Thursday November 4th at 9pm, with the second episode following on Friday November 5th at 9pm.
Two new episodes will air each week on Thursday and Fridays in the 9pm slot.
Dalgliesh starts in 1970s England and follows Dalgliesh’s career to present day as he solves unusual murders and reveals buried secrets.
The six episode first series sees him investigate cases ranging from a nursing student poisoned during a training demonstration, to a homeless man and recently resigned Tory MP whose throats were slashed in a London church, to suspicious deaths at a mysterious home for the disabled.
The drama series, which was co-commissioned with Acorn TV, stars Bertie Carvel (Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell) in the titular role. Jeremy Irvine (War Horse), Natasha Little (War of the Worlds) and Mirren Mack (Sex Education).

I hope it's better than the Martin Shaw version which I thought was very poor, but anyone would suffer in comparison to the peerless Roy Marsden, who perfectly portrayed the cerebral detective of the novels. From the description it sounds as if each episode will cover one of the novels; if that's the case they will be heavily abridged. As I remember, the Marsden series took six episodes to cover one novel and the gentle pace suited the stories, just as the Morse stories moved at a slow pace with the emphasis on character studies.

I think it is two episodes per story, so three books. I loved the Dalgleish novels.

Roy Marsden was excellent wasn’t he. I can’t remember ever watching Martin Shaw doing it. From the trailers, it looks like Bertie Carvel will be good

I thought this was very good. Although for a moment at the beginning I did a double take and thought it was CTM and wondered if I'd chosen the wrong channel.

I thought this was very good. Although for a moment at the beginning I did a double take and thought it was CTM and wondered if I'd chosen the wrong channel. It was a bit like CTM, especially as the Sister Tutor is also one of the nuns at Nonatus House! I enjoyed it. With any luck C5 will have another remake success on their hands to match All Creatures Great and Small.

Yes I thought it was really good, I know I’ve read the book at some point but it was a long time ago and I can’t remember what happened.

I enjoyed it too. I did think the other copper a bit too familiar with the senior Yard man, especially for the seventies, but overall a winner.

Shame the BBC seems to have given up on Detective dramas. Every enjoyable.

Shame the BBC seems to have given up on Detective dramas. Every enjoyable. The beeb did produce a series of Dalgleish mysteries back in the eighties.

I wonder why they didn't start with the first book?
