Hardly a whisker after the Commonwealth Games, these start in Munich from Thursday. The coverage seems a bit limited on BBC (maybe as a secondary broadcaster like the Olympics?) and will be largely on the Red Button and I guess the iPlayer. I have investigated a bit and unlike last time there is no swimming in these but the European Aquatic Championships take place at the same time in Rome. The new RT does mention swimming coverage though. The Aquatic championships include diving from 15/08 but there is no reference to that in the RT. I guess it will be a question of hunting for stuff on iPlayer after the event. Gymnastics kicks off from the beginning.

I’ve been looking at the BBC website and I think there will be iPlayer coverage of the women’s gymnastics on the 11th, all round, 13th, team, and 14th, individual, but am not true if that will be live coverage of the whole event or a highlights package. The coverage starts on those three days at 2.00, then 1.00, then 1.30. The men are on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday next week.
On the diving front, it’s Mixed Synchro on Monday but can’t see any iPlayer reference. The remaining competitions are Tuesday-Sunday 21st. I think they may cover all of them, but not sure as it isn’t explicitly stated, but 🤞. From what I can tell iPlayer for this week is:
Tuesday 11-3.25, Weds 11-3.15, Thurs 9-11.10 and Friday 9-10.45.
I’ve written it all down on paper and will be crossing out ones I watch. It’s a nightmare trying to keep up to date when they have so many sub-divisions!

I’m pretty sure we are. Maybe they have the same broadcasting system as the Olympics. The swimming is on the red button now and they have just mentioned GB. I’m off to search for some gymnastics. I suppose they wouldn’t have too much of this after saturation coverage of the CG.
The swimming commentators reckon there has been some jiggery pokery in the scoring for the relay! Apparently a Dutch changeover time has been amended which our two have never seen happen, and which has saved them from disqualification!

Yes Matt just said we don’t control the pictures. Which is a shame because, as Matt said, this director seems to have a penchant for showing the gymnasts sitting down waiting for their scores! Whereas when the BBC do it they always mix the disciplines together so you see lots of coverage. I don’t know if I’ll bother with this all round because they aren’t showing enough. It’s a new combo of the all round final and the team/individual qualification. Christine isn’t keen.

Yes, it’s on Friday. They are qualifying today for team and individual but it’s also the all-round final. This coverage is absolute sh**e! Honestly, it is either the slowest competition ever seen or the director has no idea what they are doing. We get endless shots of people sitting around but no using the time to show stuff we may have missed seeing live. The gymnastics aren’t that great either! Two Swiss girls fell off the beam three times. It’s nowhere near as good as the CG.

We have enjoyed dipping in and out of the coverage but are more interested in Clare Balding who appears to have gone for a 'pink rinse' in her hair.
That, or something is very wrong with our TV!!!

Not a great Gymnastics fan but enjoyed the Women's team event. And plaudits to the commentary team. Just shows BBC sports commentary doesn't have to be annoying.
