I can actually see Kris as Dr Who, better than Sue Perkins who some suggest. gaah I think Ardal will make a good replacement, do hope they keep the beach hut and Harry.

I think the 'accommodation' (and lizard) go with the job, so it should be safe.

Funny that people should be suggesting Kris Marshall as the new Doctor, because DI Mooney (Ardal O'Hanlon) reminded me rather of the Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton)! A steely intelligence hidden behind a mask of amiable whimsy. Yes, I think he'll do nicely as Humph's replacement.
The episode worked a lot better than I feared. JP and the Commissioner working together is a fun twist.
Is it me, or did Martha not look particularly pleased to see Humph in that trailer?

I think she was trying to act "surprised" maybe?

Harry was very perky I thought.
The new chap seems an affable cove. I too thought Martha didn't seem too thrilled to see Humphrey but perhaps it was just the shock. Let's hope she hasn't moved on.......

Is it just me, or did some of Ardal's mannerisms seem very reminiscent of Peter Falk as Columbo?

I thought he was channelling Columbo as well!

I enjoyed last night and I liked the inclusion of Ardal. I think he will probably have a few of Humphrey's mannerisms (who channels his hidden Columbo) So I think this could work.

Both male leads have been portrayed initially as English stereotypes (stiff and buttoned up or bumblingly awkward) although both - Humphrey in particular - were toned down over time. As a Irishman, Mooney can draw on a different source - also it's interesting they;ve already had him reject Guinness.
